New SIM card not free at all locations

I got this message today on my phone.

"Freedom Mobile Update: We've made some BIG network enhancements. We've recently introduced Extended Range LTE, VoLTE, and Wi-Fi calling for you to enjoy. And now we're changing the network names, from Home to Freedom and Away to Nationwide! To start seeing these network enhancements, you'll need to upgrade your SIM card, free of charge, at your nearest Freedom Mobile location. Remember to bring photo ID to the store. Learn more here: https://frdm.mobi/features"

I went to a Freedom Mobile store and they said to go to a shopping mall(with a Freedom Mobile store) if I wanted the SIM card changed for free or they would charge me almost $12 to do it. I left that store and will go to my local mall this week sometime. This is just a heads up for everyone.

Back in the day when I was a Wind customer, getting replacement SIM cards free of charge was only possible at corporate stores. The franchise stores want to make every dollar possible. No surprise here.

I need to upgrade my sim, too. Does anyone get VoLTE or WiFi calling on BYOD after upgrade?

Edit: free swap at Corp store. No significant change so far.

    Thanks

It depends on the BYOD, iPhone 6 or newer you can get both of those features. For Android, if it's a Canadian model of a device Freedom sells you may as well.

There are 5 digits beside sim number on the card. I believe you will have to upgrade it if it doesn't end up with P6A.

You must have went to a Freedom Branded Store that looks exactly like an actual Freedom Corporate Owned Store. These stores are Privately owned. Even though they most likely get some sort of a Reimbursement for a Free Sim Swap they still choose to make extra money by charging the customer for it
