slow prepaid verizon... how do I fix?

I'm trying to hold out and wait until this September after the Samsung Note 10 comes out to upgrade to both a new phone and service but I don't think I can wait with my service being so slow and laggy... I am switching to postpaid Verizon unlimited from prepaid Verizon unlimited but want to know if there is anything I can do now to get my phone service working just a little better until I can upgrade... I have a Samsung S8 right now and it also has problems of it's own unrelated to my Verizon service but is there anything I can do? it's becoming unusable even at night now

I don’t understand what your asking.

Maybe it’s your device or your area is not a good service area for Verizon ?

    I know it's a pain but I'd do a factory reset on the S8.

It might just be your area, which you do not specify. Prepaid Verizon was terrible where I live when I tried it, but I know postpaid people who have no issues. I think they are seriously prioritizing postpaid customers over prepaid.

I do get 2-3 bars here for Verizon so I should be good at least with signal... I only get 1-2 bars of AT&T here at the house, 3G only for t-mobile and Sprint is only roaming ... all of these tests are outside on my property and not inside my house

Is it laggy on Wi-Fi? If yes, it's the device - maybe a bad app, maybe something else. Remove unneeded apps or do a factory reset.

Have you tried someone else's device? I'd do something of the sort before I plunked down a wad or tied myself up.

Maybe is time to get a wired internet connection and use WiFi at your house? Seems like the signal there is an issue on any provider. Add de-prioritization to that... and you have those results.

I know that a lot of people move to "unlimited" to get rid of the fixed internet, but the more people (in that area) will move of using data from that tower, the slower that wireless data will get for everyone.
Especially true in congested areas with de-prioritized services like postpaid or MVNO's.

It isn't all about signal strength. When I had Verizon Prepaid, I could have full signal and struggle to get 1Mbps in speedtests. They were just slowing down my data to speed up their postpaid customers' as far as I could tell. I generally get worse "signal" with AT&T Prepaid according to the indicator on my phone, but the actual user experience is much better, at least where I live. Not saying that is the case for you -- just a possibility based on my own experience.

Good discussion/ideas for root-causing the insufficient/lowered data-rate. It does smell like throttling, perhaps a particularly disruptive type called "tail-drop". Consider to run some free/manual linux/unix CLI pings to measure dropped packet rate for big packets. Like this: "ping cnn.com -s 999". Then ^C after a few minutes or hours or days. Cut/paste results here and it seems that plenty of good ideas will result.
