Help Me Pick A Rugged Smartphone For AT&T; Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 Vs. Sonim XP8

Help me pick a rugged smartphone. I am trying to choose between the Kyocera DuraForce Pro 2 and Sonim XP8. While they are not identical, they are quite similar. The Sonim XP8 does have a larger battery capacity and an FM broadcast radio receiver.

    I too prefer rugged phones.

I guess it comes down to what you are willing to pay.

I have never owned a Kyocera device, but I have had several Sonim phones, a feature phone, a XP5700, also a feature phone which runs a proprietary neutered version of android, and a XP6700 which was a touchscreen Android 4.1 device with a numeric keypad. Battery life & radio signal on the feature phone and the XP5700 was fantastic. The XP6700's radio was horrible and the software was buggy. My experience with the XP6700 was so bad I did not buy a XP7700, and have opted for a S9 with a lifeproof case which, so far, I haven't broken.

Unfortunately, buying a phone like this is so expensive, you are stuck with your decision for a long time.

I'm using a LG Venture X. It's a good rugged type phone. Very good battery life

I have a Sonim XP8 on Southern LINC and it works well. They actually only sell Sonim phones, both the XP5S and XP8.

The only negative thing I have to say about it is how bulky it is. I’ve had Kyocera phones before and they have been fairly buggy.

The biggest benefit of the Sonim is the 3 year warranty which is included at no extra charge.

I want an XP8 but my experience with the XP6 was so bad I have shied away. Maybe I'll look at it again. As much as I like the S9, it is a pain to keep charged...
