Unabler to block texts from caller

I tried blocking calls from the phone menu, and calls could be blocked but texts went through
So I went to the online account and chose Settings and then Block Text Messages
I entered the standard 10 digit phone number of the person I want to block, and the response was
    Failed:Invalid length obtained for recipeint=xxx-xxx-xxx
My plan only permits 500 texts per month, so this idiot is going to use up my monthly allowance.
LG K3 on Virgin Mobile ($20 a month Walmart Plan)
    2 Samsung SCH-u410™ w/Verizon Prepaid ($5 month & $15 month grandfathered plans)

Blocking numbers on the phone only blocks voice calls.

Sprint makes blocking texts easy on Sprint and their MVNOs, like Virgin.

    Text BLOCK TheNumber to 9999

You can also block texts from email addresses and domains.

Text HELP to 9999 for full instructions.

Have you tried blocking the number from the stock Message app?
Your, you're, yore; there, their, they're; to, too, two; by, buy; add, ad; for, four, fore.

On the Sprint network, including Boost, Virgin and Sprint MVNOs you should be able to block texts by sending a text message to 9999 with the word block and number or email address or email domain you want to block. i.e.,
    block 1234567890
    or
    block [email protected]
    or
    block @spam.com

    To unblock a number, address or domain send a text to 9999 with the word allow followed by what you want to unblock. i.e.;
    allow 1234567890
    or
    allow [email protected]
    oe
    allow @spam.com

You can also text help to 9999 for for more information.

These commands have worked for many years on all sprint network based operators. I no longer use anything Sprint based but can confirm they still worked as recently as 2017.
