I don't think I've ever quoted Yahoo! News before but there's a first time for everything I suppose:

I dont think lower prices are the answer
We saw all 3 new entrants enter and curl up and die
All 3 now owned by the preexisiting players (even Freedom getting swallowed by Shaw)
None of the vendors were even close to financially sound, most news stories are depressing reads on how many billions they wrote off or want to sue Industry Canada for

Regional carriers are even on the downward cycle (although Videotron is an obvious exception, they survive because they bundle up services)

If people seriously want low cost service carriers the only way to do it is through MVNOs who try to do things like Ice / Sugar did
Even then I doubt it will take much of a bite out of your cellphone bill

The USA can't support 4 national carriers, all we ever read about is impending mergers how the heck does anyone seriously think Canada can support this
    Koodo $40 Canada Wide + 8GB + 1000 Intl LD
    Public $120 Province Wide + 12GB - $6 Autopay - $12 Loyalty - $45 Refer = $19 per Month
    Freedom $35 ($37-BTS) North America Wide + 8GB + 1GB Roaming
