FM radio on Galaxy J3 Orbit

Does anyone manage to get the app "next radio" working on the Galaxy J3 Orbit?

I downloaded this app on my phone so I can listen to FM radio over the air (ie don't use data or wifi). The fact that I could download it was a good sign; on most other devices the google play store simply says the app is not compatible with the device and won't let me download it. But when I fire up the app, after entering my zip code it keeps searching for local FM stations forever and I never got to see the radio menu (yes there are FM radios here!).

As I recall, older versions of this app would let you manually search for the radio stations, but unfortunately I don't have a copy of that.

On a related note: What other tracfone phones have functional FM radios?

    Thanks!

My Simple Mobile Moto E5 (usable on Tracfone) has FM radio.

Did you have headphones plugged in?

Normally they are the FM antenna and needed.

The J3 Orbit does not have an FM radio from what I see.

You should be able to tell for sure if it has an FM radio of its own by looking at the app list.

If you've got one you would definitely need the headphones plugged in to act as the antenna (old school: aerial )

Yes, there should be an included app if it has a radio. Not common to see FM radios in LG or Samsung phones. Most Motos and some Alcatels have them.

Most Android smartphones have an FM receiver chip, but it is locked out. An app like NextRadio may not work on these.

Never thought to look on my LG Fiesta 2, but there is one in the preinstalled "Media" folder. Haven't had cause to use it yet though.

The phone does not come with a radio app. However, I managed to google an older version of next radio, and wa la, it works! My J3 is a total wireless and not a tracfone; I don't know if that makes any difference.

Good to find that more phones have FM radio capability than was thought.

I have a fully enabled FM radio in my Moto G5 with a very crude tuner app, so thought to give NextRadio a try. For a while it would not connect to find the local stations, then finally did connect with only the basic tuner. I saved one station as a Favorite, but would not play it again. This was just too difficult and unrewarding, so I uninstalled it. Where did you get an alternate version of NextRadio?

There is basically no difference between Tracfone and Total Wireless phones since Tracfone owns Total Wireless. There might be a few differences with the T-Mobile based Tracfone phones.

I checked and the FM Radio app on the Moto E5 doesn't show much information. The FM Radio app on the Fiesta 2 at least has a version number.

As far as I know, all Qualcomm LTE modems have FM radio functionality built in. The phone manufacturer does not always give access to the FM radio.

The feature is there but it has to be connected in the phone and enabled in the firmware.
