About to switch to AT&T prepaid. Any last min advice before making the jump?

I need at least 3GB of data per month. Calling, text and data roaming in Canada & Mexico (Europe and Asia would be a plus but not required), and Full speed (3g to 4g speed) hotspot required.

I am currently on Tmobile Simply Prepaid $40 plan which allows 3GB of data and full speed hotspot. However, roaming in Canada & Mexico is an extra $5 (Up to 5GB). However, the webpage is very misleading as the roaming data is coming out straight from my plan so theoretically, I can have only 3GB roaming in Canada and Mexico. Been very unhappy about how deceiving T-mobile website is (they updated the language on the prepaid page after I made a complaint yesterday) and how clueless the customer service were when they helped sign me up the $5 roaming plan.

Anyway, I found out for the same $40, AT&T Prepaid offers 8GB of data, Hotspot included (Can anyone confirm if it's full speed?), and roaming in Canada & Mexico included too. Sounds like an awesome plan to me. Wonder if there are other prepaid plan that offers even better deal than this? Also, if there is a good site to purchase the ATT prepaid plan card please let me know too. Really appreciate the help!

If porting. Don't port after hours, on holidays or weekends. Personally I like Mondays or Tuesdays in case it gets screwy there's a couple of business days to get straightened. And don't wait till the last day of current plan expiring instead of buffering a couple days just in case.

I'm not sure what you're looking at, but https://prepaid.t-mobile.com/simply-prepaid shows 10GB LTE/mo for $40/mo. "SIMPLY PREPAID™ Unlimited talk, text, and data with up to 10GB LTE for $40/month"

I also think you might be wrong about the T-Mobile Simply Prepaid $40 plan not including Canada/Mexico roaming. That same page shows:
"Use your phone in Mexico and Canada.
Enjoy wireless without borders. Get unlimited talk, text and data with up to 5 GB of data at 4G LTE speeds throughout the North America. Qualifying plan required; after 5GB of 4G LTE, data speeds at up to 128kbps. Not for extended international use."

The $5/mo add-on I see is only for CALLING to/from Canada/Mexico. That does seem confusing, since that appears to be already included, based on the quote above.
"Call across the border for just $5/month.
Get unlimited calling to and from Mexico and Canada, including mobile numbers. Use your 4G LTE data up to 5GB while in Mexico and Canada.
Does not include calling or data roaming features outside of the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Qualifying plan and capable device required. Not for extended international use."

Hot Spot is full speed. For the best experience I recommend porting at an AT&T corporate store if there is one nearby. Also, getting the prepaid cards at Target, etc. when they are on sale is a great way to save even more money if you are unfamiliar with that tactic. Best of luck!

That is indeed interesting. I believe this is for new customer only. Mine comes with only 3gb of data and no roaming in canada or mexico. I may have to port out and port back in to get on this deal.

So i am probably still on course to switch. How much is the ATT sim card?

There's probably nothing wrong with switching, but if T-Mo is working well for you in all other ways, I'd certainly ask a CSR to switch you to the 10GB/mo for $40/mo that is shown on the page I linked above.

16GB/30 days for as long as you keep your account active at $40/30 days (with auto pay) is definitely worth making the switch! It is interesting how AT&T calls these monthly plans, but then also states that they are only 30 day plans. But even so, it's a good deal for people needing this much data!

https://www.att.com/prepaid/double-data-offer.html says "Offer ends 7/11/2019. Offer ends in stores at participating locations on 7/11/2019 and online on 7/4/19. Requires activation & payment of new line of service on $50 monthly plan (by offer end date) and AutoPay enrollment by 7/11/19. To receive bonus data each month, you must remain on the $50 Monthly Plan and be enrolled in AutoPay. Once qualifications have been met, bonus data will be applied to customer’s account within 3 days after activation and within 2 days after each qualified renewal. Multi-Line members are eligible as long as account owner is enrolled in AutoPay. Bonus data is used before plan data and does not roll over. Not combinable with other promotions and/or discounts. $50 Monthly Plan: Unlimited Talk & Text:Includes unlimited talk and text within the U.S., Mexico & Canada and unlimited text from the U.S. to over 100 countries. For the list of over 100 countries available for texting from the U.S., go to att.com/prepaidintltext. Data: Plan includes 8GB of high-speed data. Includes data usage within & between the U.S., Mexico & Canada. After high-speed data allowance is used, speeds are reduced to a max of 128Kbps for rest of 30-day term. Mobile Hotspot use included. Includes Stream Saver: For content we can identify as video, streaming will be at Standard Definition quality (about 480p). AT&T will activate it and you can turn it off or on at any time. Go to att.com/streamsaver for details. Pricing, terms & other restrictions subject to change and may be modified or terminated at any time without notice. GENERAL TERMS: By activating/using service, you agree to be bound by Terms of Service & Plan Terms (att.com/prepaidterms). You must add money to your account within 26 days of activation, or your account will be canceled. Monthly Plans: Service available for 30 days upon payment of plan charge. Monthly plans expire at 11:59 p.m. CT on the 30th day. Calls to special and premium services may be blocked. Service cannot be resold or used for fraudulent purposes. Geographic, usage & other terms, conditions, and restrictions apply. Taxes and other charges may apply, see att.com/prepaid for details. Service provided by AT&T Mobility and is subject to AT&T’s Network management policies, see att.com/broadbandinfo for details."

If you’re doing a group plan make sure they don’t apply payment until all lines are on the account to ensure you will get the autopay discount for the first month.

So far, people haven't reported any issues while roaming in Mexico/Canada. Obviously, YMMV.
