Bringing your own phone: IMEI + APN

Its been a while since I brought my own phone to Metro. I've switched between Metro branded phones via the automated phone menu quite easily, but when you bring a non metro branded phone do you still need to call them to have them "add the phone's IMEI to their database" ?? Once that's done I'm assuming I can just do the automatic swap.

Will I need to manually fill out the APN settings? Also, I'm wondering if I'll be able to keep my current plan.

Metro is such a pain when dealing with SIMS. It's at times like these that I almost want to jump ship to Cricket.

Why isn't there an online method for adding an IMEI number to their database? Apparently even when you're using the automated system to switch phones you'll need to call them and give them the IMEI of the phone first if it's not Metro branded.
    Is that correct?

I'm not moving my family from Metro, but you might want to consider this from ATT Prepaid: https://www.att.com/prepaid/walmart-...A#legal-footer

They make you buy a phone (which I assume you can swap out the sim from) but then it's $40/month (w/autopay) and with 25GB UnTnT + hotspot. Not bad.

That's not a bad deal. I appreciate the info. I got my phone set up on MetroPCS. I didn't have to set the APN info, but I had to call them to have them add the IMEI to the database before swapping over.
