Limiting access to data in your Google Account

    Hi,

Although you don’t need to do anything, we wanted to let you know that the following apps may no longer be able to access some data in your Google Account, including your Gmail content. If these apps are unable to meet the deadline to comply with our updated data policy requirements, they'll lose access to your Account starting July 15th, 2019.
    SMS Backup+

We are making this change as part of ongoing efforts to make sure your data is protected and private.

You can always view, manage and remove apps you’ve given access to your account by visiting your Google Account.

    Thanks,
    The Google Accounts team

Initially, I thought this as spam, but the same shows up in gmail inbox.

What is the reason for this notification?

How do I fix this ?

    Thanks for sharing.

As it says the app sms backup will no longer have access to your google account. Only fix is to find a different backup app

YOU can't fix the specific issue.

SMS Backup+ CAN fix the issue if they "comply with our updated data policy requirements", with the "our" being Google, before July 15th, 2019.

Although I'm sure SMS Backup+ has been notified by Google, you can use the contact info at https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ssync&hl=en_US to ask them what they plan to do about it. However, since it hasn't been updated since April 22, 2018, it may not be getting any more updates. In fact. clicking on the developer link in the Play Store, it says "now defunct Android backup tool SMS Backup".

It's too bad. It was a very good tool for a lot of years. I have all my SMSs backed up via SMS Backup+ in my Gmail account from November, 2011, when I started using Android, through March, 2017, when I stopped using a real mobile phone service and went to Google Voice / Hangouts only.

I received the same notification about the imap mail program I used to access Gmail, which is not offered in the Playstore. I'd been using this app for 2 years without any problems.

To fix, all I had to do was sign-in to my Google Dashboard
Go to Account tab and look for the "connected app/site". From there you can allow access to the app.

This worked for me with my mail app. Don't know about the SMS backup app tho, but probably worth a try.

    Thanks for weighing in.
you can use the contact info at https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ssync&hl=en_US to ask them what they plan to do about it.
After logging in , I am not able to find contact info. Where can I find it ?

To fix, all I had to do was sign-in to my Google Dashboard
Go to Account tab and look for the "connected app/site".
My connected app/site shows SMS Backup+ with <REMOVE ACCESS> blue button. There is no allow option or toggle to alternate.

    Thanks for your guidance.
