iPhone 6 using data with data off?

I only use data on WiFi so I have cellular data turned off. Yet, I’ve noticed a small amount of data IS being used. My new carrier, Xfinity, gives me the 1st 100 MB free, however after that it’s $12/GB. Why is it showing use?

Could be system updates that require a cellular data connection that is being temporarily turned on by the carrier. You should ask Customer Service if they can clarify the usage.

Is it possible that GPS from Location Services uses a tiny bit of data in maintaining your location throughout the day?

For some weird reason they also show data used by messaging and “cellular services,” time (to determine time zones), voicemail, and even push notifications in the iOS cellular data detail. It could be something like that.

Also, not all data that shows on the phone ends up being charged on the carrier side. That is how people used to get MMS messages without a data plan, as they can have separate MMS data settings.

What does your Xfinity’s OLAM show you for data usage?

I have Xfinity as a second line in my Xr. The primary line is set for data, and the Xf is for voice only. I just started a new billing cycle 3 days ago, and there has been no data use by the Xf line. I went through the whole month last cycle with less than the included 100Mb on the Xf line being used. I think you must have accidently had data switched on for a brief period at some point, or perhaps your phone settings do not completely shut the data down. What iOS version are you using?

I’m on 12.3.1. Cellular data is off. I think maybe when I was at the Xfinity store getting the phone set up, data may have been on for a short time. I’ve been through the menus and the only other thing I can find is “share my location”, which I can’t seem to turn off. Anything else I should check?

You can view which apps are using cell data and how much.
