AT&T ZTE Home Base Wireless Internet Router MF279

I stopped at my local AT&T store a few days ago. They had an AT&T ZTE Home Base Wireless Internet Router MF279. I had always been told in the past that the so-called WHPI was unavailable in my area. How does this device compared to a Netgear Nighthawk MR1100? I suspect that the Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 would be considered a better device since it is capable of more bands. I also suspect that it simply uses a SIM card and as long as the SIM card is active and can get signal, I would get data. Is the selling point of this simply the RJ11 jack for telephone service?

Also, why isn't WHPI available in ANY area that has AT&T service? Is it some sort of contractual agreement in the industry or is there some sort of FCC restriction?

I got the ZTE MF288 from eBay for about $70.

I use my mobley plan in it. Had someone else get one and he uses the unlimited tablet plan.

It doesn't have band 14, but has everything else. Didn't come with external antennas, but ordered three sets of two antenna for about $9 total.

Doesn't really need the external antennas at it does have built-in ones.

All I had to do was change the APN to broadband.

Get a dial tone on the phone line, but when I try to make a call, it says my plan doesn't allow it.

Bigger than I thought. About the size of a real Wi-Fi router.

Battery only lasts about 2-3 hours.

Just got one myself. Is it pretty straight forward to change the son?

The entire bottom slide off in the direction of the arrow. This gives you access to the battery.

WiFi and admin password are under the battery.
