Unlocking ???

My 180 days of being on Metro will be up on 7/25. I have an iPhone xr. Do I need to call Metro to unlock the phone b4 I put in a different carriers sim??? Do I need the carriers sim b4 unlocking??? After unlocking ??? Looking @ VZ prepaid - it has the best svc in the mountains of NEPA. Please excuse my asking but this is my 1st smart ph & I didn’t research enough b4 going to Metro. Metro has dropped calls & no svc in areas I need svc.
I know I have to pay on 7/25 for another month of svc. It will give me time to figure this out & get help from HF people.

Usually there is an app on your phone called unlock. Open, follow instructions.

The iPhone will automatically unlock on day 181/2/3. You don’t have to call anyone.

You don’t have to pay for another month’s service to have the unlock happen, either.

The results I get is that the phone is compatible with Sprint. The phone is described as Sprint open box. I assume that means it was unlocked?

It's a 6S purchased from Metro in December.

Oh, that's great. Only paid for the first month service then it was used as a media device by my daughter. Good to know it's unlocked now.

Get an extension to pay. They'll give you 3 days. Get it unlocked then go to Verizon.

Ask for the IMEI, then run it on the link I posted above. Then you’ll know for sure as to it’s lock status.

Again, there’s usually a couple/three days of slack in between day 180 and when the phone actually unlocks.
