    data in canada

I'm currently on Verizon and I'm wanting to know if I need to switch over to google fi for my trip but I've gotten a different response from everybody I talk to at Verizon.. I'm trying to figure out how much high speed data I'll get in Canada... I know i'll get 500MB/day high speed without data pass but if I have a data pass how much high speed should I really be getting? nobody seems to know the correct amount...

I think 500MB/day high speed is with data pass.

if that's the case I don't need the data pass because my base plan already includes 500MB per day... this the biggest ripoff... I'd easily spend over $100 for 2GB/day for 3 days ($10/day or session for every 500mb after the first 500mb)... for me paying for Above unlimited at $95 plus tax they should already have unlimited at full speed in Canada and Mexico at least..... at that point Canada based plans are looking cheaper... I might as well pay Google fi $80 for 15GB for my 3 days because I won't always be near wifi and need data

You may want to check into the redpocket global plan:

Sounds like tethering is allowed. From their FAQ:

May I bring my own device? How about iPhones and Android devices?

For hotspot devices, we offer the Red Pocket Global Internet device. You can also bring your own compatible device and use our Global Internet CDMAS SIM.
Please note these are data-only plans, and you cannot make voice calls from your mobile phone dialer while using the Global Internet CDMAS SIM even on iPhone or Android devices.

If you need that much data, Google Fi is probably the way to go.
Looks like your Above Unlimited plan comes with 5 TravelPasses per month. Not sure how that all adds up for your use.

    TravelPass
The Above Unlimited plan comes with 5 TravelPasses per month allowing you to use your wireless plan when traveling in more than 185 countries at no extra charge.

Another option, if using 5GB high speed or less and with more compatible phone options,
Metropcs has $5 Canada option to their $40 plan to allow up to 5GB high speed data, plus unlimited calling/texting in Canada.

Good to know also! I'm thinking Google fi might actually be the best in canada for high data usage... I won't stop looking as well but I'll keep Google fi at the top of the list... In my opinion 2G speeds suck and for my usage since i won't have access to wifi most of the time i estimate I'll use 3-4 blocks of 500mb per day if I'm light on usage...

wouldn't want to find out the hard way... reviews are good on this though.... regular Att prepaid is maybe 2G speeds in Canada... nice one! if it works at full speeds that would be the best one so far but I think it's only 22GB then slowed i'm reading... still not bad for the cost...

ATT Prepaid is full speed in Canada. We were just there and had full speed data on ATT Prepaid.

That was pretty much already determined in Whitieiii's thread at https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...ming-questions, but thank you for providing a first hand report.

Nice I've determined Verizon is the worst for Canada roaming... I think only the unlimited att prepaid plans roam in canada but how much high speed data do you get on att prepaid in Canada?

Not sure about unlimited but for my $50 ATT Prepaid plan ($40 with autopay) it says as much high speed data as my plan allows, 16 gb.

I had throttled data on my free Sprint plan while roaming in Canada. I had no issues using it for VoIP calling, email, browsing and navigation. YouTube was pretty unusable, though.
