    The way I understood it cdma does not have a sim but the LTE cdma device does have a sim card for the LTE but not for the cdma.

    The question doesn't make any sense. Android is an operating system, software basically. It cannot add a SIM slot, which is a hardware component.

    Absolutely correct !! The phone manufacturer is the one that adds the SIM slot.

    Not sure when, but about the time Sprint and Verizon introduced LTE to their networks.

    No, Verizon had some phone models with SIM slots and GSM/HSPA radios long before LTE. Possibly even before Android. They were meant for Verizon customers who traveled to Europe where CDMA doesn't work.

    If I had to guess, Android supported this right from the beginning.
