Moving to Verizon and getting port in credit with new iPhones?

I’m looking into moving some lines to Verizon and taking advantage of the BYOD promotion. However a few of those lines need to get new phones cuz they’re not compatible (formerly T-Mobile). I wanted to get the new phones thru Apple once the new ones come out.

So the question: can I order the new phones and add a line at the same time by ordering thru Apple once those orders open, or should I have those lines already open and established somehow thru Verizon? If it’s the latter, would I still be able to take advantage of the switcher credit?

I tried going thru the motions thru the Apple Store app and it wants me to type in a Verizon number for verification. So doesn’t that mean I’d already need to have an account with them? If I remember right the unlocked ones aren’t usually available on day one.
