Question Why FREEUP mobile throwing unlock code message and cause nightmare ?

Why did FREEUP mobile throwing unlock code message and cause nightmare ?
    ================================================== =================

Thanks for replies to my postings.

I have Nokia Lumia 530 Windows Tmobile phone bought several years ago. I started with TMobile pre_paid then. I used with Lyca Moble later on.

I thought of using this phone for porting my number.

I ran the IMEI validation with FREEup/ultraMobile/Ting. All passed as comptible.

I received SIM from FREE_UP mobile for this phone.

FREEup site did not co-operate for activation, so I call their CS and did provide required info for porting my number.

I got an email from FREE-UP saying, my porting was complete and my phone is READY to use.

    The nightmare started now.

As I start my Lumia 530 with Free up SIM,

    (A) It is asking to enter unlock code with message "This device is locked to a specific mobile operator . Contract your mobile operator for the unlock code"

FREE_UP is not able to provide unlock code. If I enter any code it throw "SIM Error"

I spent many hours with Free_up mobile. They said it was locked by phone career.

I spent hours with TMobile. They did verify my IMEI and saying it is unlocked.

They asked me to remove FREE_UP SIM and start the phone. I did not get above (A) message. I am able to go to setting etc. It showed "NO SIM" message.

They said this is confirming that this phone is unlocked.

FREE_UP mobile is not buying the TMobile's confirmation. They are asking me to unlock the phone to get rid of above (A) message.

How do I ask Tmobile to unlock , a already unlocked phone ?

If the phone is Tmobile locked, how did it work with Lyca Mobile?

How do I fix this nightmare ?

    Thanks for sharing.

If it's asking for an unlock code clearly the phone is NOT unlocked. You'll need to contact tmobile to get it unlocked or buy an unlock code on eBay.

Freeup is AT&T not tmobile. Your previous carrier ran on TMobile which an locked TMobile phone will work just fine on

Lycamobile runs on the tmobile network. So an locked TMobile phone wouldn't have to be unlocked....

Thanks for weighing in. Good to know the carrier intricacies.

i did try with codes2unlock.com (this is in howardForum site).

It throw "Sorry! Unfortunately we do not have a way to unlock this particular device at this time!"

I did try many such showed up in google search. All throw the message like above.

Is it because of outated NOKIA Lumia 530 ?

Do you mind , sharing reliable unlock code resource?

Who is the seller from Ebay you use for unlock code ?

    Thanks for guidance.

There's loads of unlock code sellers on eBay. There's no specific one. Generally theyre pretty cheap under $5 which I wouldn't spend more than $5 on an unlock on a phone like that.

Look up TMobile windows phone unlock on eBay

Thanks for your info. I did review Ebay posting. It clearly says

    Network Supported: AT&T USA only
    Mine is TMobile.

They are either very incompetent or they just wanted you off the phone. Message (A) won't appear without a SIM. All phones, even locked and unactivated, can use the internet and download apps on wifi and go to settings. Your phone was never unlocked

    Per https://frequencycheck.com/models/vW...530-nokia-rock, Noke 530 is a 2G/3G/HSPA+ phone.

Per https://usatcorp.com/anticipated-cel...g-sunset-dates, you can no longer add 3G/HSPA+ phones to AT&T.

It's an obsolete phone that's useless except on T-Mobile, even if unlocked. It's worth nothing. If your nightmare is worth spending $20, go buy a (locked) AT&T branded phone from Walmart or whereever. Oh yeah, not a TF-branded phone which is locked only to TF family of providers.

It should work fine on FreeUp (AT&T), if unlocked, until AT&T sunsets 3G, which is essentially set for the start of 2022. That's over 2 years of use. It's not worthless, though I agree it may not be worth the trouble, and certainly not the cost of an expensive unlock method if it can't be done for free or cheap.

RIMDHoward, you said it worked fine with LycaMobile? Is there another SIM (preferably one from AT&T, Sprint or Verizon) you can try in the phone, maybe one from a friend or family member, to see if you get the same message? Even an expired one. If it continues to show the "locked" message, it could be that T-Mobile issued an unlock code for the device but it was never entered into the phone (which is why their system shows it as unlocked). Perhaps you can get them to give you the unlock code again. Be sure to point out that you were previously a T-Mobile customer if they don't want to give it to you.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

I am able to get 20 digit unlock code for my NOKIA Lumia 530. I unlocked my device with this code.

FREEUP confirmed that my device was activated, but my phone shows the following:

It shows ER06 SIMnot ready, Service not available

    2)

Settings Cellular + SIM Shows ( it is not showing Mobile + SIM)

    No Network found
    Data Connetion OFF
    Don't roam
    use Cellular data

SIM SEttings ( I did not see speed settiing here )

    Sim Name ==> Blank
    Cellular Connection Profile ==> AT&T

    Add internet APN
    add MMS APN

*** I did not see place holder for to select connection high speed

How do I make my device work?

    Thanks for your guidance.

The APN settings are here: https://www.apnsettings.org/us/freeup-mobile/. Try putting in the APN and see if that fixes it. Turn on mobile data and roaming.

If the "SIM not ready" error persist, I suggest seeking help on a Nokia hardware forum.

    Thanks for weighing in.

I did follow the steps in url for APN settings. Still I am getting "No Service". What is this mean?

I did open a thread under NOKIA of this Forum.

APN is for data. Wouldn't cause you to have no service.

Does it still say invalid sim? If so it's a sim issue most likely.

But if it's just showing no service what do you have your network mode set to? Make sure its WCDMA/LTE.

Maybe you have your reasons for using an old Windows Phone. If it's simply for price I would look at getting a cheap AT&T Prepaid android phone and just be done with it. My rule of thumb when shopping for phones under $50 is to stick with LG rather than the myriad of obscure Chinese brands. I'd probably get the LG Pheonix 4 right now if I wanted the best phone for the least amount of money.

    >Still I am getting "No Service". What is this mean?

Just wild guess here, but it probably means you got no service.

    >Is it the right place to seek help for NOKIA Hardware challenges ?

Hah ya fell for that one. There is no place for "Nokia hardware" questions, at least not for 5-year-old clunker phones. GOTCHA!

Since ya gimme a chuckle lemme help ya out...

    >It shows ER06 SIMnot ready, Service not available

This says the phone can't read from the SIM. Since it's a way ancient phone, the contacts in the SIM socket are probably oxidized (ie bad connection).

Take out the SIM. Clean the contacts on both the SIM and the SIM socket with isopropyl alcohol. If you don't have some on hand, use an eraser. Make sure they are all shiny. Put SIM back in socket and pray to your god or gods.

And if that doesn't work, there is really no other hardware help. If you're in dire straits, post a "HELP ME" post and ask for donation of an old AT&T handset. Old AT&T phones are worth nothing, and people would be more than willing to give you their hand-me-downs for the cost of shipping.
