    StarTAC ST7868W carriers

    Hello,

I recently got one of these phones in beautiful shape and I’d really like to use it. Are there any carriers left anywhere that will let me use this thing? Any MVNOs?

    Thanks

Looks like it is cdma. What carrier does it say on it. If it is sprint you might be able to use it on a sprint mvno. If it says Verizon it may not work on sprint. And you will not be able to use it on Verizon due to the shutdown next year and I do not think they will let you activate on there network.

Verizon stopped activating CDMA devices back in April and they can't override that.

    It’s a Verizon branded phone.

Ok you would have to try to talk to sprint to see if they would allow it on there network. If they do you might be able to use it on tello or another sprint mvno. Like what veriztd said it will not work on Verizon.

I emailed Tello and they are saying that if I think it should work on their network, I need to send them some information. One thing they asked is if it is unlocked? I’m assuming I should create a separate thread in the marketplace asking how to do that?

    Thanks

Verizon cdma phones aren’t locked. So try the Verizon MVNOs like page plus, who I believe can still activate 3G phones. Check the ESN there first, as their $12 plan is perfect for a little throwback time.

It’s not SIM based so it’s virtually impossible to take a Verizon 3G phone to anyone but a Verizon MVNO. Takes lots of trekking and hacking, and the phone’s ESN won’t be in Sprint’s phone database.

This note was brought to you by the proud owner of a ST-7860 and a P8767, as well as a V3M (all in great shape, but not activated). I do have a V3X on AT&T that’s active for my throwback needs. FWIW, it’s a hoot to see the looks you get while talking on that sitting with an iPad in front of you.
