Standard Pay-As-You-Go Plan not eligible for VoLTE or visual voicemail

Interesting data point that might be helpful... I just found this out today. I was porting in a number and activating it on a $10 standard plan 100 minute pin. Test calls weren't working, so the PP rep on the phone changed stuff around, and then everything started working, but this disabled VoLTE. She explained that only monthly plans are eligible for VoLTE and visual voicemail, including the $12 monthly plan.

Prior to test calls working successfully, VoLTE was on in settings, but I couldn't actually make a VoLTE call because I was getting error messages trying to make ANY calls at that time.

I presume once CDMA is totally shut down, the standard plan subscribers will have to be converted to VoLTE. Whether that will include visual voicemail and/or wifi calling is still a question in my mind.

I have the same PayGo plan.

On my phone I have cellular data turn off.
Under Cellular data options > Voice, I have LTE checked.

In this configuration, am I using VoLTE when I make voice calls?

I just made a test call and there does not seem to be anything displayed on the phone's screen to show whether or not it was a VoLTE call.

Is there and hd icon I the upper right corner? Or does it stay as 1-xx, 3g to 4g?

When I place calls on HD, there's an hd icon call status screen when it gets received.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro.
Top of phone does not mention HD, 1xx, 3g or 4g

    I just called our landline.
    Top of phone only shows:
    time
    signal strength
    wifi symbol
    battery strength symbol

Any way to check if that call was connected via VoLTE?

What happens if you turn off wifi, then place call? Does the signal strength meter show anything more than the triangular bar graph?

Also, I think wifi calling needs to be turned off. I do that think that feature works on mvnos. That is not the same as volte so should not affect or interfere.

Not all phones give an indication. I don't think iPhones do. Sure hope active phones on PayGo with VoLte active now don't need to change to monthly. @CrazyMind....what model phone and did you initially activate online, call, or chat ?

    iPhone 11 Pro model MWCJ2LL/A

I purchased the phone from www.pageplusphonestore.com
That website is run by Quality One Wireless (Q1W)
The tech support guy says the phone is unlocked.

PP could not activate the phone since the IMEI is not (yet) in Verizon's database.
Apparently this issue affects all unlocked iPhone 11s
The Q1W guy says Apple and Verizon are working on this and those IMEIs should be in Verizon's database in few days.

I 'activated' my phone by taking the PP sim from my iPhone 7 and putting it into my iPhone 11 Pro.
    New phone works fine.
But I do want the IMEI issue fixed.
I am the OP on a long thread about this issue.

iPhone 6s, unlocked sim free version. I tried to activate online, but the website is so glitchy, I had to call to complete the port. Once on the phone, I just stayed on the phone and finished everything, which took a while.

I also have another line on a different iPhone 6s I bought at Walmart in March that is TF locked. Same exact configuration through three different sim cards, all provisioned the same - two back in March and a third one today.

On both devices, LTE data for web browsing requires the TF profile installed, there is no wifi calling option anywhere, and VoLTE can't be activated on these two lines at the present time. Again, this was only one phone rep who told me the reason for no VoLTE is because of the calling plan. She could be wrong, but right now on both these lines, voice is CDMA only. Both have standard voicemail working properly.

What phone model, and it's a new activation? Also was it initially activated online, call, or chat? Maybe if call or chat just a clueless CSR. All mine are on PayGo and fine with VoLte. Unless they're just changing for new activations. Next month I need to renew my PayGo on one of them.

Do iPhone users have the ability to check their apn settings? My experience has only been with Android.

Whether you just have talk and text or have everything(talk, text, HD voice and mms) is dependent on having the correct settings for the apn(tracfone.vzwentp).

With basic settings, talk and text MAY work without issue. But other services may not.

What is displayed during a VoLTE call varies between phone models. My Android does not show anything special.

    You can test it by:
    Turn Wifi off
    Turn data on
Start and continue a phone call
Start something that streams data, like a Youtube video

If the data stream continues along with the phone call, you have and are using VoLTE.

I think the op is on paygo standard plan so they don't want to consume any data if possible.

You do NOT need to stream anything to test.

    Turn WiFi OFF.
    Turn cellular data on.
Make and stay on a phone call.
Try to access websites while the phone call is ongoing, such as these relatively small websites that shouldn't use much data:
    https://duckduckgo.com/
    http://www.guimp.com/
    https://www.dogpile.com/
    http://example.com/

If you can access websites WITHOUT WiFi while on a phone call, VoLTE/HD Voice is working.

    That's even better.

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/simple is ~300 KB to load the page. You have to touch a button to run a speed test, which is more data.
