Two parents, one iPhone, one flip phone

    Hi all,

I recently took over both my parents cell phone plans. Long story short, my dad has an iPhone and my mom has a flip phone. My dad uses his phone a decent amount but I doubt he would go over 15GB a month. It looks like despite my mom having a flip phone I am paying 121 dollars a month for a multi-line unlimited plan for both phones. That seems kind of crazy especially because my mom has no interested in anything other than a flip phone at this point. Does it make sense to split the lines and just have two separate accounts? Apparently if one phone is on an unlimited plan both phones have to be - which is crazy.

If she just wants a flip phone with no data, I would consider moving her over to an MVNO such as Consumers Cellular. Would probably be cheaper.

    Agree about Consumer Cellular.

OP, if your Mom doesn't want data, Consumer Cellular charges $15/month for 250 minutes, $20 for unlimited. Add another $5/month for unlimited texting (which also includes 250 MB of data). In fact, if your Dad only uses 15 GB/month, you could put both parents on CC for $65/month. ($55/month if your Dad can get by on 10 GB.) They'd both have unlimited talk and text, and they'd share the data package (which only your Dad would draw against, obviously)

Consumer Cellular is an AT&T MVNO, so coverage should be unchanged from what your parents have now. They have a reputation for good CS, and Consumer Reports consistently top ranks them.
