What LTE bands do I need

I have seen ads for the Motorola One priced under $200. Right in my cheap skate price range. I also see my concern is the LTE bands. It has band
1/2/3/4/5/7/8/28. Is this enough for decent ATT coverage?

I also see ads for other variants with more bands but double the price.

Well that is not enough for decent coverage. You need also band 17. And on top of that band 14 is also becoming a more prevalent band that you should have. Because they deploy that where they do not have bands 17 licenses.

Yep band 12/17 are a must for decent ATT coverage. You also have to make sure those international phones come with a manufacturers warranty. A lot of them on Amazon don't have a warranty.

Iview band 14 as essential for coverage and areas where there is no band 17

Get a Z3 play, under 200 on Moto's site. Supports all AT&T bands.

At a bare minimum, you want Band 12 or 17, 2, 4, and 5. These are the "classic" AT&T LTE bands that underlie their LTE network. (People are telling you 12 or 17 because 17 is actually included inside Band 12, and on AT&T either will work. If you were on T-mobile Band 17 wouldn't be good enough, because T-mobile's Band 12 network doesn't support Band 17.)

Ideally you would also have (in order of preference), 14, 66, 29, and 30. These are newer frequencies that AT&T has been deploying over the last couple of years, which increase coverage (especially Band 14) and speed (the others). But many phones do not support them.

Keep in mind B17 only phones will lack in speed as there aren't any 3CA or higher combos certified for them. Personally, I'd go for a Moto Z3 Play, Google Pixel 3A, or used iPhone 8.

I would personally recommend the Motorola g4 has for Carrier aggregation and all the necessary bands for AT&T

That’s a 3 year old phone. Moto Z3 Play can do at least 3CA, as can the Pixel 3A. The iPhone 8 can do 4CA.

But the pixel 3 a does not have 4 by 4 mimo so or 4x4 mimo is obviously a very important factor nowaday

Neither does the Moto G4. Not sure of your point. If 4x4 MIMO is of concern, the Galaxy S8, LG V30, and Galaxy S8 Active all fall under $200. I doubt OP cares about these things based on the devices they were looking at.

I'm just making a generalized statement that's all. But obviously for me as well I'm more concerned about the LTE service in terms of the bands that the phone supports. I have the pixel 3 a and it covers everything for AT&T including band 14 Wi-Fi calling and voice over LTE. So I'm fine without four-by-four mimo.
