I'd hate to see those phones either die from old age or because AT&T followed Verizon and shut down their old networks, right after he goes through the trouble of getting used to a new phone.

The Alcatel flip should be OK, particularly if you shop the Store that TF has on eBay. They have a deal that comes with a snap-on cover, which is not available separately anywhere and which should make the phone easier to hold.

Wouldn’t the AT&T Alcatel SmartFlip be a better choice than the earlier TracFone Alcatel MyFlip? After all, with the SmartFlip, he could still text by dictating his texts to the phone’s Google Assistant.

Of course, one would need to be sure that the AT&T SmartFlip can be activated on TracFone with a TF/AT&T BYOP SIM.

Pretty sure BB is running Android now.

Have to go look more but thought I saw some LTE feature phone earlier. I was focusing on Verizon possibilities.

They are probably Verizon Prepaid, which is going to be a problem.

At the top of this page (on my laptop), there's a banner with pictures and reviews of the BB Key2 and Key2 LE by Howard.

No they weren't Verizon at all, that's why I didn't pay much attention.

You mean LE? The mid-range between the Key2 and the KEYone.

Looked it up and the switched to Android in 2015 (from BB10) with the Priv. Then a year later stopped designing phones and partnered with TCL, their first device bring the KeyOne.

You're right. Key2 LE, not LTE.

Yes, the Smartflip may have some useful advantages over the earlier "Flip" models. Have not seen a report yet on how well Google Assistant works for voice to text entry. $30 at Best Buy.
