A story that broke last night on The Verge is now being widely cited across the web. Some AT&T customers on Mobile Share Value plans are suddenly being gifted extra data... and an extra $10 on their monthly bill.

Even worse is that there's no way to opt out of this. In a statement to The Verge the carrier said:

“We are communicating with some customers regarding changes to their mobile plans. Customers have the choice to change their plan at any time and can always contact us with questions or to understand their options.”
AT&T apparently offered its customers a similar "bonus" earlier this year. At least users are getting extra data for their extra money.

This year they hit the Value shared plans. This is not new and was announced back in February that this would happen. Why they are 7 months behind schedule in the price raise is head scratching. The 2018 price increase was for the Advantage shared plans.

Having no contract cuts both ways, but their communication with this plan change is awful. I believe we got the notification like a month ago, but didn't get the data increase until this November pay period. MyATT is also messed up with the change, so figuring out what is going on with billing is a pain.

Looking at the old notice, I think we're being shorted 5GB on our old 20GB plan...

With a lot of customers on Auto pay and paperless billing, they are betting on most will not notice the $10 increase and they can payoff the $60 million fine in a couple of months.

I'm on MSV 30GB (doubled from 15GB a few years ago). On my September bill I got the notice saying it would change (to 45GB) with the October bill, but that bill has come in with no increase. Maybe they meant November.

I’m on the retention 12Gb plan. Not interested in doubling this as 12Gb is more than enough for my needs. If I’m forced to pay more then I’ll probably jump ship to Cricket or maybe look at Verizon.

This doesn’t effect grandfathered unlimited single line plan does it?

That's not a gift if you have pay extra for it.
They should have done what Verizon did to me and probably others, is to give the extra data without tacking on the extra charge.

I'm glad I port out a line back to Verizon before they decided to "add value" to my MSV line, my AT&T bill was already killing me with that extra line before this.

On JUL/01/2018, AT&T "doubled your data" on the Mobile Share Advantage plan. The smaller doubles ( 3GB to 6, 6GB to 12, etc,) were $5.00/ month the larger doubles were $10.00/month, etc. Somewhere there is a chart with the matrix of the GB increases and the corresponding price increase.

I cancelled mt AT&t post paid plan because this was done prior to my consent.AT&T "touched" my account without my permission; neither expressed nor implied.

The AT&T that can giveth is the AT&T that can taketh away. And that fact gives me pause and concern and is very disconcerting.

Along with the fact that all, each and every, all of the CSRs thought--believed--that the account belonged to AT&T.

AT&T did offer to waive the $5.00 fee. All of the CSRs had difficulty with the fact that I refused the "deal", Yes, twice as much data as before for $5.00/month more was a price decrease, but to me it wasn't a "deal" because of the way process happened.

I'm a little bit suprised that there has not been a class action civil suit over these doings by now.

What would be the basis for the class action suit?
