    LTE coming on during calls

I can't believe I've not noticed this before, but the LTE indicator comes on when making a call, off after hanging up. I have data off. Is this new? I'm sure I would have noticed this prior. Running CDMA on a REbel 4 using VZ. I don't know why LTE is necessary for a phone call.

That just indicates your call was going through VoLTE (Voice over LTE) which uses the data channel to carry the call. Don't worry, you won't be charged for the data. You probably was on a call with someone who has Verizon VoLTE on their phone.

VoLTE is what Verizon wants all their users to migrate to after 12/31/2020 (was 12/31/2019).

Next time that happens, look and see if there's an HD indicator on the screen during the call. That indicates High-Definition and the call clarity should be great.

That indication (in your Status Bar) will come on during a call (or when your ringer sounds when someone's calling) regardless of their own VoLTE status. That means you are set up to use VoLTE for voice calls, as a connection method to the cell tower (instead of the old 1x CDMA method). Welcome to 2019!

And if you look at Settings>Advanced Calling, you'll see an Advanced Calling toggle that should be slid right (probably blue) and on, also indicating you're doing voice calls via VoLTE. Leave it as is.

This is independent of any setting for cellular data.

Most of my personal calls are to people also on Verizon that have HD Voice. This is great, especially since I use speakerphone most of the time.

I only use speakerphone and no one ever knows the world can hear them also.
