Angry NO service for one week

I have a Samsung S390: I know, it's old, but works great as an emergency phone.
It has triple minutes / 3347.50 mn / 370 days of service / ATT network

2 days ago I chatted with TF about having NO service for the last week.

    I was told:

<< There is currently a reported outage affecting ALL customers that are connected through AT&T network. >>

And as he predicted, my other phone, ATT prepaid, stopped working for 15mn that day, but has worked OK since.

    AND:
I still do not have any service on TF.

Yesterday, I had great TF service in town, 15 miles away from home.

    Today, chat said:

<< Let me inform you that the AT&T network has been upgraded to 4G/LTE and your phone works with 3G technology.
<< That may be part of the issue.
<< It is one of the old phone models and may not be getting the signal from the updated network. >>

SURE !!! - but he should explain how it works 15 miles away, but not at home !

<< The assistance of the department in charge of the network is needed. >>

...... Still waiting for their call.

I have been with TF for over 10 years & on 4 Oct 2019 I renewed my service in advance for one year & I feel that was a waste of money.

    What can I do ?

    Can I talk them into:

giving me my money back ? [as I have not used yet any of these 365 days]

    &

buy the LG Rebel 4 Smartphone [HS for $30] and have them transfer my minutes ?

This way I will have one phone ATT & one Verizon - could be a good idea.

Thanks in advance for your help.

It is POSSIBLE that if AT&T is slowly shutting down 3G support (by Feb 2020 as someone mentioned in another thread) then they didn't replace a broken 3G equipment near your house. Just speculating.

    You may be right:

for the last 2 or 3 weeks we had a lot of problems with our 2 phones - calls dropped after 1 or 2 minutes, sounded like talking under water, ... etc

We have not been able to find out where our tower is.
We used "ATT mark the spot" . but did not tell us anything.

In the boonies South Central VA - I guess they would care a lot more in Northern VA

OP, here is a support link to Samsung about that phone: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/o.../s390g-tracfon

I hope this helps and the issue is resolved ASAP. Keep in mind that if you attempt to contact At&t, they will redirect you back to Tracfone for technical assistance.

I am talking right now to TF.

<< that right now under the system your device looks fine. >>

problem is NOT with the phone but the service.

I contracted with TF and paid for a service they cannot provide. Then after Feb 2020: ZERO.

I am trying to get my money back. Worth a try

Now I just have to chose between the Motorola & the Rebel.

They're now, but the thread below says AT&T will be doing away with 3G activation soon.

AT&T has had HD Voice (VoLTE) for quite some time, just has not released it to the MVNOs yet. Maybe that will change when 3G activations stop. Just like with Verizon, you will need to have a VoLTE capable phone.

My thoughts too. But it's 2022 for AT&T.

For MVNOs it is, but it's not clear how they are transitioning. They could offer VoLTE w/o HD in some areas. Or they could just have dead spots in coverage.

Just shows how little they think of MVNO customers.

The discussion/news says shutdown is end of 2022, but no new 3G activation after Feb 2020. I was speculating that if a piece of 3G equipment breaks down now, they might choose not to replace it.

Don't disagree. Since most of their "retail" customers are VoLTE now unless it's a big customer for B2B/IoT stuff they are unlikely to do much to repair. It's cheaper to provide new phones to a few retail customers.

Plus I have heard that AT&T does not like fixing storm damaged 3G tower systems too. I am not sure how true this is for the OP tho.
