    Unlocking iPhone

Does anyone have any current info on unlocking an AT&T iPhone? I tried the AT&T unlock site but that didn't work as the previous owner hadn't had it long enough. It is no big deal for me here in the states but an Australian trip is now upcoming and I would like to get a Telstra prepaid plan for the month I will be there. I have no reliable info for the online unlocking web sites.

If At&t is unwilling to unlock it for you, there are several unlocking services that will help you at a fee. If the device is not eligible for unlocking, there is little else you can do. There is more than one paid unlocking service who advertises here on HOFO. Best wishes.
Don't make me turn this car around.....

Oh yes. I have unlocked 6 Cricket iPhones that way. It will not work with this AT&T locked iPhone.

I was hoping someone has some actual experience with any of these services?

My iphone was locked to AT&T. It was used for 1+ years on Cricket. I intend to use it with another carrier. Using the AT&T unlock portal I have received the instructions below by email. I was hoping that all I had to do was insert a Verizon or T-Mobile sim and power cycle the phone. Can anyone confirm that we will be successful by doing that?

    From AT&T:

    We approved your unlock request.
Use these instructions to unlock your device.
    Unlock instructions:

    Using a Non-AT&T SIM Card:
    1. Remove your SIM card and insert the new SIM card.
    2. Complete the setup process.

    Using an AT&T SIM Card:
    1. Back up your iPhone.
    2. When you have a backup, erase your iPhone.
    3. Restore your iPhone from the backup you just made.

Just put in a different sim card and connect to wifi and it will unlock. Sometimes you need iCloud password.

Thank you! That worked well with an old Verizon sim card. Didn't need to power cycle the phone. iCloud password was required.
