each monthly period is only 30 days

I noticed that over time, my monthly payment / renewal day has been moving earlier and earlier. It seems each "month" is only 30 days, so you effectively lose 1 day out of every 31 day month. Basically you get shorted 5 or 6 days per year, whereas on every other MVNO / carrier the payment date stays the same and never moves.

Some funky algorithm with ATT's prepaid system.

Yes, and some people will have 13 payments for the year.

This isn't unique to ATT pre-paid. Many MVNO's have 30 day billing cycles.

Actually I do believe it is unique to ATT prepaid. My Verizon Prepaid and Cricket billing dates were always the same.

Verizon Prepaid & Cricket are not technically MVNO's since they are owned by their respective parent companies. Strange that ATT pre-paid is on a 30 day cycle since it is owned by ATT?

FreedomPop, Red Pocket, Lycamobile & many other true MVNO's do work on 30 day cycles.

There is a reason that vendors like Red Pocket had to specify that their "annual" plan is 360 days. It is 12 "monthly" plans of 30 days each.
iPhone 11 is my current primary phone. But I have more phones than lines. Back to only Prepaid with the changes in the economy.

I would argue that most MVNO's have 30 day billing cycles.

I've used many different prepaid brands between myself and family members (including but not limited to: H2O, Verizon, Cricket, Airvoice, AT&T, Red Pocket, Straight Talk, Page Plus) and honestly Verizon prepaid & Cricket are the only two I know of that use full month billing cycles instead of 30 day billing cycles.

FWIW, from personal experience, Boost and FreedomPop are monthly. I think there are a few others. I'll try to run a query on my database and post a full list tomorrow.

    Monthly vs 30 day billing.

Monthly: Beast Mobile, Best Cellular, Boost, Consumer Cellular, Cricket, Data Jack, FreedomPop, Good2Go, Google Fi, Pure Talk, Republic, Teltik, TextNow, Unreal, Venn Mobile, Verizon Prepaid, Visible and Walmart Family Mobile.

30 Day: Airvoice, Allvoi, AT&T Prepaid, Black Wireless, Boom Mobile, Chit Chat Mobile, EasyGo, Ecomobile, Expo, FreeUp, Gen Mobile, H2O, Hello Mobile, i3 Mobile, Kroger Wireless, Liberty Wireless, Metro, Mint, Pix Wireless, Real Mobile, Red Pocket Wing Alpha, Selectel Simple, SpeedTalk, Straight Talk, Surgephone, Tello, Total Wireless, T-Mobile Prepaid, TracFone, Ultra and US Mobile.

I can't be 100% sure about some of the monthly ones. A lot of operators say "per month" on their plans page and then have "30 days" buried in their TOS or FAQ. I searched through each operators site and chated or talked to CS for a few, but the only way to be sure is to actually use each carrier.

Corrections are welcome and much appreciated.

Effectively it's another way to get more money out of you. Every ~6 years you pay for an additional month you wouldn't have done on a true monthly plan.

On my yearly plan it is only a difference of $2.63 over course of a whole year. As frugal as I am this doesn't bother me in the least.

That used to be what "1" gallon of gas cost. Today it is as low as .87/gallon .
