    Phantom FreeUp Mobile profile

I’ve been using my FreeUp SIM card with an iPhone 4s since last year. I installed the FreeUp Mobile then but deleted it later (also last year, 2019) since I don’t have FreeUp data anyway.

Today, I wanted to park my FreedomPop SIM card in the phone (I used
that same phone before with FPop before I had FreeUp). When I tried to install the FPop profile, my phone showed “Profile installation failed. Remove the profile FreeUp Mobile before installing this profile”

    I checked Settings/General. There’s no Profile listed.

Has anyone come across a problem like this where the phone is saying a profile can’t be installed because there’s a profile installed (but there actually isn’t).

I’ve tried restarting the phone. I also tried installing the FreeUp profile thinking that I could delete it later. Same problem - phone saying that I have to remove the FreeUp mobile profile first.

Is there a solution other than resetting the phone to factory default?

You still somehow have a profile. Try doing a network settings reset. Or a factory reset

Forgot to mention that in my first post - I already did a network reset.

And my question in my first post was "Is there a solution other than resetting the phone to factory default?"

If your 100% sure a profile is not installed somewhere somehow then a reset would be the best option.

I've had this problem, also. The current FreeUp carrier profile is bugged. Might be for older iOS versions. I don't have an iPhone with iOS 13. I'm running iOS 11 on my iPhone SE and unwilling to update. I spent several days trying to solve it.

Even with a full phone erase/reset, the FreeUp profile still reports error like "Profile Installation Failed Couldn't communicate with a helper application." Trying to install again, gives that existing profile error message.

You could try an iTunes backup, then delete the file "com.apple.managedCarrier.plist", and then re-sync the phone.

Otherwise, probably need to do a full phone erase/reset. That should allow you to install the FreedomPop profile.

    Phantom FreeUp Mobile profile

What I did was back up the phone to iTunes. Then, reset (Erase all content and settings). Then restored with the backup.

After that, the FreeUp mobile profile was finally visible in Settings so I was then able to delete it and install the FreedomPop profile.

The downside is that I lost the TextNow app because the old version is no longer available on the AppStore. I miss the days when apps where directly back upped by iTunes into my computer instead of having to DL from the AppStore.
