    Have not seen the SD card as the default storage location for the contacts list. My present phone does not have an SD card, so Export goes to the Downloads folder in internal storage. You can move/copy it from there using a file manager app or by USB.

    I think around 7.1 they started removing the SIM option.

    3rd party apps can still access the SIM through the limited info you can store on the SIM is why most started using device storage and then online options.

    glad to hear you were able to fix it, yeah definitely sync contacts and whatever else you want to not lose to your google account/the cloud, I started doing that years ago in the Kitkat days after being tired of having to re-enter contacts with each new phone lol
