Google Voice port out + port in? Does this work on AT&T?

I'm consolidating lines... so when I've done this before on Verizon, i'd port the "less used" number to google voice, and once it confirmed the port out, do an immediate port in number change to the number I need.

    Essentially:

Less used number (current AT&T number) -> Google Voice, then immediately as GV port shows processing, initiate port to change current AT&T number to become the Verizon number.

Usually on Verizon the "current" number going to Google Voice would become unusable for the rest of the day, then appear in Google Voice when the port completes the next day.

Anyone used this trick on AT&T successfully?

I want to check before i start it, as i'm sure as with everything else when I deal with AT&T.. it'll be some debacle.
    Verizon: Grandfathered UDP
T-Mobile: Magenta Amplified (airline employee plan)
    AT&T: Premium & More w/ Free 100Mbps VDSL2 "for life"
Sprint: Premium Unlimited (for 100GB hotspot!)

What am I missing? Is there some reason you can't port the AT&T number directly to Verizon?

I am not taking it to Verizon.

I want to "park" my current AT&T number in Google Voice, and bring my Verizon number to AT&T without starting a new line of service.

The number that's currently on AT&T i'd like to keep (in Google Voice), as i've had it 17yrs, but I now live in Chicago and primarily use my Chicago number. I've just been forwarding the calls and using messaging forwarding from an old iPhone SE, but i'm comfortable enough getting rid of Verizon completely thanks to how good AT&T has gotten this last year or so.
