Set up an answer message but do not use vioce mail?

What I'd like to do is have the ability to record the message. "No voice mail-send a text message to get a reply". But I do not want my phone to accept a recorded message. Any advice?

You can record the message, then call your cell number (turn it off or put it in Airplane mode so it'll go to voicemail right away), play a radio or some music near the phone to leave some really long messages to fill up your voicemail box. It won't accept new messages once the voicemail box is full. I don't know if the voicemail system will delete the messages after x number of days.

An extremely long greeting message will timeout most bot calls...

    A wonderful idea...

But if you want to ignore voicemail altogether, don't use it. There will always be a call history in your recents you can monitor.

I used to have a Phone-Mate answering machine with two micro cassettes: one for the greeting message and one for incoming messages. I recorded a very long classical music piece as the greeting message. My family members knew to punch in a two-digit code to stop the greeting and leave me a message. The rest of the callers usually hanged up.

Stupid joke. Record a message that convinces whoever is calling that you don't know how to use the voicemail. If they left a message, you wouldn't be able to retrieve it.
