    $30 plan with flip phone?

For my father, we were looking at this plan. All he cares about is phone calls and has to have a flip phone. We were going to pick the Go Flip they have. You can order this online. Will this plan get a auto pay discount?

Don't suggest prepaid because he has that now, Net 10. He has nothing but issues with it and needs good customer service, not the runaround.

But for these flip phone only plans, you're better off on prepaid.

$15 unlimited talk/text/2GB of data on AT&T or T-Mobile would serve him better, and he can just set it to autopay and never need to worry about it again. Net10/Tracfone has well known horrible CS. go straight through a carrier directly, and he will be fine.

For a flip phone, verizon postpaid is a total ripoff.

Really though, a basic smartphone and the $300/yr AT&T prepaid plan is by far the best deal right now for basic usage.

$300 for the year.. unlimited talk/text/8GB of "high speed" data then it slows down (so no overages)
    Verizon: Grandfathered UDP
T-Mobile: Magenta Amplified (airline employee plan)
    AT&T: Premium & More w/ Free 100Mbps VDSL2 "for life"
Sprint: Premium Unlimited (for 100GB hotspot!)

Yes, don’t confuse prepaid with MVNO. Carrier prepaid (Verizon, AT&T, TMo) are all good choices with quality of service (except perhaps data speeds) are every bit as good as PistPaid.

I know you wrote that you wanted to go postpaid, but Consumer Cellular might be a good deal for your dad. $20 (plus taxes) a month for UTT, American-based customer support that specializes in older people who just want to use a flip phone. AARP discount if your father belongs. CC resells AT&T and T-Mobile, so you can pick the one that works better. CC isn't really prepaid; it's postpaid but works like an MVNO. Go postpaid if you want but CC might be a good solution for you if AT&T or T-Mo work. (Full disclosure: CC customer for several years with both flip and smartphones.)
