iphone xr or iphone se 2020 for remote location

Which would be better for AT&T voice signal/data speed in a remote area a long distance from cell tower: the iphone xr or the 2020 iphone se?

The 2018 XR is larger and more expensive -- does it have room or budget for a better antenna?

Or is the newer 2020 SE able to receive a signal in difficult areas better because it's newer?

I accrued a few website comparisons that I hope helps.

The iPhone 11 has the same CPU and modem as the SE so presumably it’d have the same performance when compared to the XR. https://www.cnet.com/news/iphone-11-...compare-apple/

The XR and 11 and SE are 2x2 MIMO. The XS and 11 Pro are 4x4 MIMO.

A 4x4 MIMO phone might be better for your fringe network situation, but ultimately WiFi calling might be your best bet.

    Interesting pages.

Interesting! Does it make a difference if you're in a rural or urban setting?

Yes the se uses the same antenna design as the iPhone 8. It has decent antenna gain vs any iphone since the iPhone X.

It is impossible to predict actual coverage for every user in every location. The OP would best be served by trying out the device in their usage area and to return the device within 24-48 hours if not satisfied. We can all speculate but unless we live in the same area with the same device we really have no clue.

To be blunt, it’s entirely possible AT&T is just not the best solution for the OP. Other carriers might have better coverage.

Thanks. I'm between 10 and 35 miles from the nearest cell tower, so looking for the best antenna I can get in one of the iphones within my budget ($600 or less).

Have you considered WiFi calling or a MicroCell? It’ll allow you to send and receive texts and internet and calls and might be cheaper.
