Unexpected T-Mobile roaming onto AT&T? (Mid Lower Michigan)

I was in the central lower Michigan region (Clare and the Tri Cities: Midland, Saginaw, Bay City) over the weekend. and my data speed went super slow. I restarted the connection several times, and the phone also, to no avail.

Eventually, I checked and found out I was connecting to AT&T, and T-Mobile towers weren't available at all for connection. I was surprised, I thought TMO roaming onto ATT was ancient history. Also, this is typically an area of 50+ mbps T-Mobile coverage

This area had massive flooding a few weeks ago... so now I wonder if it took out the T-Mobile towers and they haven't been replaced. Has anyone noticed this, or something similar in other areas?

I know there's still areas of the Midwest/Plains/Rockies where roaming on AT&T is still a thing. It just isn't as common as it used to be.

I remember roaming on AT&T while riding the Amtrak's Southwest Chief in Colorado and Kansas late last year. Though a lot of the time it would be on Viaero.

T-Mobile also royals on AT&T throughout Alaska, along with GCI.

If you're in that area north of Bay City - around Sterling/Standish - I've roamed on AT&T forever up there. Their maps at least have been updated to show it as 'Partner' now (more), similar with the UP. Maybe T-Mobile got their hands slapped a bit.
    AT&T... your world, throttled.

I don't think it's quite the same because this area ordinarily has very strong T-Mobile coverage.

It's west of Bay City, in Bay City, and south of Bay City. As I said, an area that used to have very strong coverage.

We have AT&T roaming in the Inland Northwest markets as well. Spokane, Coeur d’Alene and Idaho panhandle.

Ive only gone up/down I-75 from Detroit to Sault Ste. Marie, with side trips into Mackinaw / Kinross

I would say this is a result of the flooding in that
area. I would guess it won't be long before repairs are done and it's up running again.

Either this, or T-Mobile was doing some fiber maintenance.

Ive had before where they opened up roaming before taking out a few major cell sites for a new fiber splice due to some construction needing the fiber lines moved. We roamed on AT&T for a day while they were doing that (it was slow, but worked)
    Verizon: Grandfathered UDP
T-Mobile: Magenta Amplified (airline employee plan)
    AT&T: Premium & More w/ Free 100Mbps VDSL2 "for life"

this got me wondering, does that mean all of you who responded on this thread leave your (data) roaming engaged all the time? I only get a limited amount of MB per month for roaming on my plan so I never do that. Hmmm.

I always leave mine on, it's so rare that I use it though.

In general, roaming in California is always 'Emergency SOS'. I was able in the past to roam in Vermont, Michigan, New York and Hawaii.

Is this still occurring or has it gone back to normal?

No idea, I'm not back there and it'll be a long time before I'm going back.
