    AT&T $2.00 Daily Plan Change

Effective 8/19/2020 the 100MB Daily Data Add-On is increasing from $1.00 to $2.00.

I found this logging into my account this morning.

I had that plan at one time and liked it overall. If I needed to use maps for a day I would pay the dollar occasionally and it worked well. For $2 I don’t think I would pay it, that’s a little steep for me. Not a huge deal since it’s an optional feature but not really surprised it’s going up. If on that plan and needed data more than just occasionally probably better off with a monthly plan

When I had the plan on a backup phone I never actually activated the data plan, since I thought that 100MB was a little low. Now it would be an even worse deal.
iPhone 11 is my current primary phone. But I have more phones than lines. Back to only Prepaid with the changes in the economy.

How about the 25˘\minute prepaid plan, is that one still available?

I looked at the website and could only find info about the monthly plans starting at $35/month.

Last time I had the 25˘ plan was maybe a year ago to port a number. I had the local AT&T store do it for me.

I liked the plan because I could buy messaging packs, 200 messages/month for 4.99, expire in 30 days unless renewed, unused texts would rollover. No data packs available on that plan. Just the going rate, I can't remember what it was but not cheap.

The talk rate at 25˘/min is horrific but I use cell to text more than talk.

Years ago they had a 10˘\min talk plan and not too bad but raised it and I switched.

I guess H20 and Red Pocket is the solution for low volume subscribers like me who do most data over WiFi.

Either they removed the messaging add on or it's not noted unless you have the plan and sign in to your account or call customer service.

I was able to deduct 4.99 from my balance to pay for it. One message deducted from the pack for an sms or an mms.

In addition it offered 1000 messages for 9.99 and unlimited for 19.99.

I could buy the pack by calling customer service and listening to the automated menu.

The good thing was if I renewed before expiration it would rollover unused messages and add them to the new pack.

They used to offer data packs too for the per minute calling plan, back in the day when it was 10˘/minute.

I think data per usage on the 25˘ plan was 5kb/1˘, it isn't cheap.

I decided to go with H20 again. No messaging packs but 5c minutes and 5c texts, I can use Google Voice or other free apps for texting. I text mostly from home anyway.

At the att store they mentioned hearing that the 2/day plan is most likely going to 3/day later this year. If it’s a backup wouldn’t be a big issue but as a primary that could get expensive.

What could possibly be the business/technical rationale to increase the price of the data add-on 100%. Bytes getting transmitted over the air without special protection and now risking to being exposed to COVID-19?

This is the side that I hate about at&t. Like increasing the PAYGO minute rate from 10c/min to 25c/min some years ago. They obviously don't expect to make any profit out of it. Just want to push people away from the plan. They hate them when they stay on those, and are now less subtle about it.

I was thinking the same thing. They must really want to push people away from the plan

I figured they hoped to make it so uncomfortable to use the plan that people will decide it's cheaper to switch up to a monthly plan.

An ad for Pure Talk said they have a $20/mo plan that includes 2gb of data. Not bad if anyone can use the plan. Not sure who the service provider is.

I don't need unlimited talk. I have free call and text apps like TextFree besides lower cost cell plans with limited minutes.

All the comparison shopping makes me want to yell "just give us something that makes sense that works!!!!"

Pure Talk USA uses the AT&T network.

That's what I was thinking. If so then a person who wants AT&T service might be best off with that if they're on a $2 a day plan ($3 if it's going up) and they spend at least $18/mo for talk.

Not to say they wouldn't know that already obviously unless the $3/day plan offers extras Pure Talk wouldn't.

Rather than that $2/day deal for data, just use a H2O SIM, pay 10c/mb when you really need to look at traffic or map. However that plan is good for 90 days. AT&T isn't really trying to increase customers on that plan.

I've gotten spoiled now, I found a Sprint phone, put it on Tello and pay $6/mo for 500mb, 100 min & unlim. texts. Now I can check trafffic without turning on the hotspot or pulling into a McD's.

The Tello price sounds good. Does the Sprint phone have to be unlocked?
I found out I can use Sprint or T'Mo in town here where I live.

    They have excellent paygo rates.

They are 1˘ minute/ 1˘ text/ 2˘ mb. The Sprint phone doesn't need to be unlocked.
