Did you change carriers or cancel service after 4 months? If so, it must remain active for 6 months of service without interruption before it can be unlocked.

The unlock request is customarily sent to your provider, not the phone manufacturer.
    Just another day in paradise.....

I have tried unlocking with with inactive metro sim installed, no sim, active tmobile mvno sim.

I keep trying a few times a week. Maybe in July I will get lucky.

    unlock is through Metro/T-Mobile

a couple things to check is that all the latest updates are installed and you have a good wifi connection since the unlock involves interaction with a server side system.

the policy is that you must have 6 months of continuous services BUT the reality many have observed over the last few years is after the 6 month the device unlocks even if not active for the 6 months WITH an important key which is the device must remain active on the line it was purchased for at least through the 14 day return/exchange period. any device changes during that 14 period will impact the unlock and require assistance from support. support will enforce the 6 months of continuous service if you get them involved.

Back when it was still called MetroPCS, I know for sure that it didn't require service for the entire 3 months (it was 3 months back then) to get unlocked. Just the initial one month of service was enough, and then after 3 months, you went into the Device Unlock app on the phone on wifi, and the unlock went through very smoothly.

I've read that it still works the same way so your 4 months of service should work I think.

Do I need to keep the metro sim card in to unlock even with wifi on? I realize I did not keep it 6 months on service but I was hopeful it might work since others have stated it does.

1 more? Any reason I can't sell this as locked to Metro? Another user could activate it, correct.

I bought the 1 month of service and the Samsung A14 5G for $40 six months ago. Used it for the entire first month, then put it in a drawer until today. Do I need to update BEFORE trying the unlock?

I can't say whether it is required or not, but definitely advisable. If you don't have cellular data available, use a Wifi connection or plug directly into a PC or laptop via data cable to update. Please share your experience when you try for others who may have the same question later.

Unlocked perfectly! Only had service that first month, then waited 5 more months and BAM unlocked.

Moto 5g used 4 months and will not unlock. 8 month mark now. Maybe Moto's work different.

Once the six month mark is hit you just go to the menu and select “permanent unlock “ and (for me at least) it unlocks immensely.

That's how I tried it with no luck. Did you have Metro sim in, no sim or another carrier sim in? I get the circle spinning saying activating permanent unlock don't exit. But it just keeps doing that and never unlocking. I've left it like that for hours and nothing more happens. Using Wifi.

Pretty sure I left the sim in during the unlock. Also updated the software before I tried it. You could give CS a call if you’re not having any luck. Couldn’t hurt at this point.

The Metro unlocking policy says 180 days must have elapsed since activation. It does not say 180 days of service altho that may be what they meant .

    https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/term...-unlock-policy

    "Unlock eligibility requirements

We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
One hundred eighty (180) days must have passed since the device’s activation date."

The linked page also has discussion about what to do if the phone does not unlock.

Update: I decided to try unlock again today and it finally unlocked! Moto 5g.

I probably tried 10 times since the 6 month mark. So for me it unlocked at 8 1/2 months.

So you can still unlock a phone without 6 months service.

Absolutely correct. The manufacturer cannot determine if the phone is eligible for unlock, only the carrier can.
