New Data device Konnectone Car Smart

Saw this on HSN and looked to see it was on the tracfone website too at https://shop.tracfone.com/shop/en/tr...re/datadevices.

Hotspot in your car 2 gb/ month. $99 for year service.

How many Hofo prepaid people would be interested?

It uses telematics for gas level, battery, etc. tracking. That implies that it can't be used outside of a car.

2 GB wouldn't go far for children streaming video, social media, etc.

It could be of interest to a few, but I expect very little interest for the device and service.

I can get all that I need from my phone. I also have an unlimited hotspot, but that plan is no longer available.

That's weird that Tracfone charges $100, but HSN is $190 for what looks like the same product.
Looks like it runs on T-Mobile.
One year service included in the purchase price, but does not show pricing for additional service.
Seems to work on any car that has an OBD-II port (1996 or later).
Wonder if it uses any data while idling? OBD ports are powered all the time.

They offered something like this in a Verizon store a couple of years ago. Don't remember if it did WiFi hotspot.

Are you sure it INCLUDES 2GB/mo for a year? To me, based on what I see at that link, it looks like you have to pay an ADDITIONAL $99 to get a plan to go with it.

You are right, the plan is $99 more than the device. Totals $298.98 in checkout. You can buy it without plan, but I don't see the plan listed anywhere else.

The HSN page says the service is included for $189.99

    What You Get
    Tracfone Car Smart device
Tracfone 12-month Wi-Fi hotspot start up package
    User guide
    Manufacturer's 1-year limited warranty

Yes, it gets the vehicle diagnostic information from the OBD-II port. That is also how it's powered for the other functions.

I have a Mobley and one of those power supplies. It works great, but the Mobley is only connected to power on the OBD port. There is no telematics with the Mobley.

This thing appears to be a Moxee Automate.

I don't know if this thing will work outside of a car with just power and no data exchange with a car. The similar Harmon Spark does not work outside of a car. I don't know if anyone has found a way around that.

Someone buy one and let us know.
