Emergency alert during thunderstorm — corrupted?

Received this last week on an iPhone on Verizon postpaid. Has anyone seen this issue before?

Escalate with VZW and maybe file a FCC complaint.

Looks like SPAM based on the content of the message. If you ever get a message from an unknown sender like this, don't respond to it. Definitely contact customer service.
    Just another day in paradise.....

If that is SPAM then there is possibly a serious bug/security issue...that is allowing it to be inserted as an emergency alert.

I definitely agree with you. Maybe it can be explained by customer support.

Speak to your neighbors and see if they received the same thing. If they are on a different carrier and received the corrupted alert as well then it could be an issue at the tower’s CB transmitter/receiver affecting everyone, or at the alerting source which in this case would have been the National Weather Service. For all we know something coulda been hit by lightning and caused a glitch.

That can't be spam. It's not SMS. It's an emergency alert using LTE cell broadcast. Outside parties cannot use it to send messages to phones.

To clarify when I said “CB transmitter” I meant the cell broadcast transmitter, not citizens band transmitter (CB radio).
