    T-MO iPhone trade in

Can someone explain how does T-Mo's iPhone trade-in works? From what I read, you have to add a line to be eligible to trade in your current for the iPhone 12. Or did I misunderstood it? I have an iPhone X and planning on trading it for the iPhone 12.

That's exactly the way I understand it. You have to add a line and trade in a device to get the promo pricing. Sprint's billing system is offering the same promo and it won't proceed without both requirements met.

I presume the reason is that a normal trade-in would be a lot less than the bill credits they will offer for the new device, so they make it up in service costs.
