Quick Q. Wifi calling and HD ?

Not sure if I tweaked something or not, but when placing a call via WiFi calling I no longer get the HD icon. HD calling just appears when placing a call via Volte now I think.

You are correct. HD Calling only occurs when both parties are using VoLTE & both phones/networks have HD interoperability.

WiFi calling can sound great, but is never true HD.

Thanks. So to summarize, it's normal not to have the HD icon present when placing a call via WiFi ?

Agreed. HD requires a network cellular connection (using VOLTE) and WiFi does not allow HD.

I vaguely remember Sprint having some type of higher fidelity calling that worked with CDMA. Do you remember what they called that?

Maybe they called it High Definition or High Fidelity instead if I recall. My last 2 phones with SPRINT supported VOLTE.

It was just called HD voice. Sprint just used their 1x advanced and 3g network to deploy it on.

The only reason HD voice and volte are linked now is because all carriers (besides sprint) chose to deploy their HD voice services over their lte network.

CDMA was capable of excellent sound quality. The reason it often sounded like crap was the CODECs that most carriers elected to employ in order to cram as many calls into the channel as possible.
