The $2 day plan isn't very cost effective for most use cases. Like the 25˘ per Minute plan, it requires a top-up of $25 every 90 days or $10 every 30 days. That makes the minimum monthly cost $8.33/month. For minimal use there are plans from Red Pocket and Page Plus that cost $2.50/month.
$2 day is only a good deal for someone that makes lots of calls or sends lots of texts and/ or who uses the $1/day 200 MB data add-on, but only on a few days per month.
Find and compare prepaid plans at https://prepaidcompare.net
It makes a nice backup line, for travel within the US, for instance, if your primary carrier is T-Mobile or Verizon. Though in my case I'm currently using RP's $60/year plan. At least the ATT plan is more flexible. If you were going to do more for an upcoming month, you can change plans for that month, then move back. With RP you would be paying the higher topup options.
h20 has a 90 day plan with $10 top-up. https://www.h2owireless.com/plan/minute
Which would seem to be cheaper if at&t requires minimum of $25 every 90 days.
talk/text is 5c per Mb. data 10c per Mb.
I don't know how flexible it is though, like if you could change it back and forth to a different plan (probably not)
I have this for a "home" line on a spare phone. VoLTE, etc, work with my iPhone SE (2016). I have all data turned off, and my balance is back up to around $40 after I forgot to renew a couple years ago.
For this usage, if Google Voice supported my area code I would have gone that route to save even this $40/year, but I often spend more than this much a week on takeout.
Another plan popped up on Ebay. Someone is selling a100 minute 100 text 500Mb yearly plan for $29.99 good on any of the four networks. Thats $2.50 every 30 days and it's good on AT&T and Verizon unlike the $2.50 a month plan redpocketstore offers.
Folks,
Maybe I'm missing something, but the RedPocket $2.50/month plan mentioned above is a CDMA plan not a GSM plan?
Eric
Its available for both
Sent from my SM-F916U1 using HoFo mobile app
I stand corrected. I see the $2.50/month plan from RedPocket includes GSMT (on T-mobile).

Hello Mobile (hellomobile.com) on T-Mobile network
$5/month 500 min /500 sms /500 MB
RustyBronco,
Do you have a line for the ebay plan you found for $29.99/year? Thanks.
Eric
i haven't used for a few years but i believe tello which used to be on sprint is now on t-mobile and has PAYGO for 0.01/min
in the past they had a minimum top up that was not strictly enforced, it may be enforced now though. might be worth a look.
