which phone verification number if creating Google account to Android device? The device's?

This should be a simple question and the answer should be simple. I am not sure of the logic so I ask this question:

Which phone number should be given for telephone verification when creating a new Google account ON an Android mobile device/cell phone, if this Google account is to be the one ASSOCIATED with the device/or the cell phone number line? Should one use the device's current cell phone number? Should one use the cell phone number of some other feature basic flip phone?

Should or could someone when setting up a Google account on an android phone, use some temporary virtual phone number which is mostly made for people to receive free SMS messages on that temporary number? But then several days later when that temp number expires, the number is now lost in case of wanting it for any verification purposes.

How then should someone choose the telephone number of Google account verification when creating a Google account for a smartphone?

You could use a landline or cell phone number to validate your GV account. I don't think GV accepts the VOIP numbers like with TextNow, TextFree, etc for validation.

I have two GV numbers. They are associated with my two Gmail accounts. I validated them with two different cell numbers, but once validated, I was able to switch the main numbers on the accounts. In fact my second GV account hasn't had a phone # associated with it for months, not since my H20 number expired.

To validate on a smartphone they send a code by text message and you have to respond to it within a certain amount of time. If it doesn't come, you can request it to be resent.

If text code doesn't arrive after several tries you can opt to have them validate with a phone call.

I did one validation with a call because the code didn't arrive to the flip, but the call came through.

I think once you associate a number with the Google account, you can't use that number again for another GV account. So, you do have to choose wisely. However you can create a second GV account if you need one.

You might try visiting the Google Voice forum elsewhere in Howard Forums and read more about it from people who know more about it than me.

    WheelieBoot,
The question is not intended in any way to be related to Google Voice. One could infer something involving Google VOICE but my question was not for that.

Let me try to ask my question better than in post #1. I have a feeling someone else may have already answered in another topic on the forum,...

I may want to use the android smartphone to CREATE a Google Account and probably also a GMail account, to be used as dedicated Google Account for the device. Then I wanted to know how to choose which telephone number or MOBILE number to give for account verification; but I now believe that in setting up GMAil or Google Account by CREATING the account on a smartphone, no such phone number for verification needs to be given.

I did see a small number of YouTube videos indicating no need to give a phone verification number when creating Google account on android phone/device. If true, my question may be mostly satisfied.

I am less enthusiastic at the moment about trying to get Google Voice service, but this feeling may change.

This is correct--you don't need to use the phone number of the cell phone you are using, but I suggest it should be a number that can receive SMS and not a Google Voice number associated with the Gmail account you are using on the phone. I have been locked out of my Google account for some unknown reason and Google refused to give me the option of any of the alternate methods of verification other than the phone number associated with the account. In other words, I had an alternate email address, the Google prompt on my phone, 2FA codes via the authenticator app, and one-time codes saved, but Google would only send the authorization code to the phone number associated with the account.

    Thanks; I believe I understand - maybe.
I could create a Google account through the android smartphone, and the smartphone already has been activated for service with a cellular number. (and one may believe, upon completing the Google account creation, Google now has my cell/smartphone's number). But then this is why the account creation process done this way might not require giving a phone number for verification.

But I wonder, if the intended Google account could be created on a computer/pc, and then the phone number for verification given (and required) could be, the phone number of the android smartphone on which the Google account will be created for.

Either choice, the phone number would be MY phone number.
