Goodbye. Thanks For The Memories LG.

Sad day today as LG announced it is leaving the mobile phone business to focus on other things. They haven't made a profit in years and feel that it is in their best interest to focus on other things. They will keep offering support for a while, but the phone division will officially shut down on 7/31. I always loved the quality of the LG phones that I had, and felt that they could have stayed around longer had they taken on people like OnePlus in the budget and midrange price categories instead of trying to compete with Apple and Samsung in the flagship categories. I can't speak for everyone, but I will truly miss having LG in the smartphone game.

So sad.... I had several of their phones and it was of a good quality. I even saw their new LG Wing phone which looks fantastic. A bit expensive in my opinion but maybe I will buy it at the end. I just need to sort some issues in my property in Rome and after I will see if I have extra money left so I can buy it.

Since this thread is specifically about LG, seems a good place for it.

But this is a subforum for Feature/dumb phones. What is then the purpose of the LG subforum under Android / Hardware?

A while ago frail mentioned that there will be a redesign of the forums, specifically because people keep posting about smartphones in the wrong subforum.

I jumped on Google's offer to trade-in my Nexus 5X. Glad I got rid of that turd before it suffered the inevitable bootloop of death. My Nexus 5 was a much better phone overall.

Goodbye. Thanks For The Memories LG.

LG made great phones. They were usually well built etc...
It seemed like they had their share of issues though with the OS, cameras and batteries.

I used to say if you buy an LG there will be probably one thing they forgot and left out, like the camera or battery. But this was kind of normal for Android back in the day, until Samsung upped its game to compete directly with Apple.

One exception to all this was the T-Mobile G2X and the G4. Those were solid phones.

My mother last phone before she got an IPhone 7 was a Lg expression plus. It was the last phone that I unlocked directly from Att. She was using it on Family Mobile. She ended up getting a text or a letter saying the expression would not work at the beginning of the year. At Christmas my father got her the IPhone. She hates it. I wanted to get her a LG journey for mother's day or her birthday. Since LG is out of the phone game it looks like a bad Idea.

Yes, we've considered merging the phone forums into a single section. It's been a long time coming and I'll revisit the discussion with the other admins to see if we can't get it done soon.

For now, I think this thread is okay here, since they'll likely be merged in the near future.

I have had afew LG phones but the LG V40Q has been great. Yes i did upgread the batery but that was due to being left on and charging.. (heat damage) Today we when to look for replacement after the roomates lost her G7 some plaicked up and tried to reset it for them self. IMEI lock solved that. But There is of this last week no LG phone in Sprint T-mobile stores or online. A very sad thinmg. the phone 5 cameras have been great plus manual mode for both photo and video been out standing. 4K video HD photos... The sound on the V40 been great, Screen great. Just no real issues.

I feel Samsung and Appl;e have so domnated the market with crap therey push LG out. really my V40 has been doing much of whatthe current Apple Samsung are just staring to do.. they even add more cameras.. So well if they say LG was bad why copy them?
LG did thing right but were cut out by extreame marketing by Two major compaiesthat are in over kill. LG did the best at being good and never over killing it.they will be missed.

Saw a great Video on YouTube where tear down and show all the part of the phone and reassemble it and all worked. The Hinge for the wing is very Hefty and looks to do really well and last long. It was a very clean buil;d and looks to be a phone that will last. Nice score hope you got a deal on the price.

Finding a replacement for this phone is hard the V40 is 5 Camera Phone these specs: Triple Rear Cameras & Dual Front Cameras 6.4" QHD+ OLED Display* (3120 x 1440, including notch); 538 ppi Yes thre are better cameras but i have yet find a screen size and resulution that is a match or better. this phone put Apple and same sung to shame.
the V50 looks to be good but the screen i think is 6.2 not 6.4 the v60 isn't the same as well. LG din't do this right. but again this is due to the money dumped by apple and samsung to push reviews for their crap and i feel apple is just that over priced and not really the e3nd all to phones. Same sunwas good but tnow they just spend their time emulatin apple. Roommate got a samsung GS21+ It was ok but was $$$ for her to do but she found out you can not like apple ADD a Micro SD memory card.. that sucks. it in all ways more apple like then original design to me. LG did phone right and with the idea to not be the same.

Replacing my LG is going to take a lot of time sadly. not even the motorola seem to work..

Try GSM Arena’s phone search tool. I set up a baseline search to get you close to the base screen specs of the LG. Tweak it how you like and add things that are important to you.

You probably would do best with a OnePlus device based on what you’ve said though. They’re not as expensive as Samsung flagships but they’re chock full of features too.
