I wonder if ATT's phone deals, for both current and new customers, helped with the large increase in new lines? That and HBO Max?

    Definitely has.

A couple of years back ATT was hemorrhaging postpaid subs but they defended that as a strategic business decision in order to retain only high ARPU subscribers.

With new leadership they reignited that competitive engine offering free Apple products and other promotions that not only kept existing subs happy but attracted new ones.

“The Internet wasn’t meant to be metered in bits and bytes, so it’s insane that wireless companies are still making you buy it this way. The rate plan is dead — it’s a fossil from a time when wireless was metered by every call or text.” John Legere 1/5/2017

The one big black mark on this earnings report seems to be the loss of 620,000 premium PAY TV customers.

    Ouch.

The impressive part is just how quiet AT&T has been about everything. When a tech farts on a T-Mobile tower they have a press release about it, and can’t argue with the strategy, it works for them, AT&T on the other hand really doesn’t say much, you do see ads from them on phone deals, but overall the ads even are subdued compared to T-Mobile’s bright colors and flashing lights advertising strategy. Yet, in every network testing firm they are either at the top or right near the top, and they are adding customers all while lowering their postpaid churn to .76%. It’s impressive.

Tyrone’s videos have been talking about Verizon and how they’re now trying to not include premium 5G. While the other 2 have already stated they’re opening up all their 5G to everyone. Verizon may alienate a lot customers pretty quickly.
