Help me upgrade and KEEP my udp!

    It's the same story.

I've researched this several times, but I want the most current advice.

Until starlink hits me (I am in beta waiting), my phone is my internet.

I am currently on a tired, amazing note 3 and using foxfi.

    I need a newer phone.

It doesn't have to be the absolute newest/fastest/bestest. I've been looking at the Note 10, as an example.

I have gone into a couple of places (wal-mart, franchise store), but they cannot upgrade me without picking a new plan, or it says I am un upgradable.

That's fine, I can buy another phone. Problem then seems to be I need a 5g SIM, that trips something in the system, and it wants to add 5g service (I don't think we have much of it where I am), but it can't add it to my old network 450 plan. Or going through my verizon it chokes and says I need to call for help.

    What I need to know:

1 - How are people avoiding the tethering cap now?
2 - How do I provision the new phone?

    Thanks in advance

Also - is there a particular phone anyone suggests? I'd like a really decent front and rear camera, and a big screen. About it lol

if you have a target store close by, they should sell factory unlocked phones
you can buy off the shelf. the one i was at had them near or close by where
    the prepaid phones are at.

Walmart had some, but they required them to be 'activated' or something. I told them I'd take it home and do it myself, but they (or, maybe I) didn't seem to understand that.

    Thanks!

If you are going to upgrade to a Note 10 from your 3, you will need a new SIM card which is where you may run into a problem. You can't trim down a Standard or Micro SIM to fit a Nano SIM slot. All newer devices use a Nano.

As far as tethering goes I believe you need to use Foxfi/PDAnet.

As far as phones go. Maybe a pixel would be good

You can trim a regular SIM down to a micro but you cannot from a Standard/Micro to a Nano SIM.

Help me upgrade and KEEP my udp!

If you can find an Essential PH-1 phone. That is the brand name. The original one not the second version. It would allow free mobile hotspot use. Also some Sony phones did as well.

But why not just put your SIM card in a cellular modem and be done with it. I understand you would have to get a new phone number. But that would be much simpler.

I’m curios as I have that phone. How does it allow free hotspot use? Thanks

Verizon uses two checks for tethering. One is waived on gUDP plans, and the other is not required on "non-VZW" phones, or phones certified for Verizon but not sold by Verizon.

This includes the Essential PH-1 and Verizon certified Sony Xperia phones, among other models.

The cap is there for a REASON so the network doesn't turn into dog poop. I find is disgusting you are asking for ways to circumvent this. Talk about entitlement. And by the way there isn't a way.

ah yes the “entitlement” of needing an essential utility service but being unable to get it in any other feasible way than utilizing a loophole in the system of one of the corporations that took hundreds of billions of our taxpayer dollars to build out nationwide fiber optic Internet service and just pocketed the money without doing it
