I keep the plan because it works on cruise ships and many international destinations. Usually 50c to send and normal 10c to receive texts; not cheap but good for an emergency phone.
Because the plan has no data, and quite a few people I know with it are still using old devices like a Nokia 3390 or Nokia 6010 lmao

They'll go to a store, get talked into a $10 or $15 connect plan, and swap for an LTE/5G phone.

There's likely so few of us left with this plan, they just expect it to die with attrition over time, and the 2G sunset will cause quite a bit of that.

There's only a few niche uses for this plan anymore, and those niche uses are getting smaller and smaller each day as the world moves more and more into data focused activities.

As far as cruise ships, just pay for the onboard WiFi and use iMessage/WiFi calling for SMS. it's far cheaper in the end.

Text is $0.10 each, but talk is $1.00/min. A bit pricey.

    Overseas rate is pretty outrageous...

I mean this plan *does* date from the 1990s and just kinda lingered in T-Mobile's systems far longer for sale than it likely should have. The rates are reasonable when you think of the timeframe this plan is from.

I would love to go to Connect

BUT it does not have international texting unless they changed it ,

a dozen times a year or so I get an International text , often from European friends who are in town on a layover etc and using their European number.

    Ohh well ......
Wanted: old barnfind VWs , Old Porsche projects and Sports cars ,

I have $140 on the Legacy plan from many years of $10 refills and almost no use as my elderly relative's phone. They don't want it anymore so I'll take it back as long as it's $1+tax a year to refill. In addition to emergency phone/text for international travel (at this point, I don't care about the high rates), I guess I can use it for promotions that require a non-VOIP cell # and don't want to use my regular cell. If they go back to $10/yr for refills, I'll probably just give it up.

is there going to be a problem with these old Legacy Gold SIMs still working after 2G GSM is shut down? presumably they don't support VoLTE, yes? i started having a hard time finding any of my old phones working with it whereas before nearly all old phones work with this SIM...

Not sure how old your sim is or if you need new sim for VoLTE support

As long as you have a newer compatible phone then service should still work -- I believe you need VoLTE support on either 4G or 5G network (3G is gone and 2G will be next)

I got rid of my 10+ year old sim cards on two legacy lines about 2yrs ago -- I had the really big ones that I manually cut down to micro size but decided to buy newer ones for nano size on newer phones (better fit and also wanted to upgrade)

Bought two new ones from eBay -- called support to replace them on both legacy lines without issue

I bought the TM9263 (2015) sim cards since those were $3 each a few yrs ago -- the latest version right now is R15 (2020) so buy that from eBay (search "tmobile r15 sim card" should be under $4 each)

You can order new SIM's on eBay, or usually on myT-Mobile, the sim's are often in there for $0 to "upgrade".

I can imagine when it gets closer to the time, they'll just swap the SIM's for $0 on these plans that need it.

I'm confused about this expiration myself. In OP's attachment, does it mean the very last day you must add $1 balance is 09/30/2022 to keep it alive and after that the account will get wiped out?

Its dicey to wait til the very last day as the cutoff is sometime that day (I get confused from carrier to carrier the exact rules and cutoffs). So I always do the renewal no later than the day before the last day. If you miss it, usually the balance is depleted (down to $0) but the account and number stays alive for about 30 days before it too is deleted. Sometimes if you call in just after the expiration, you can convince a nice CS person to re-instate the lost balance.

I just renewed for another year for $1 + tax/fee. Focus on the "Balance Expiration" date. For example, if it shows Balance Expiration: Jan 02, 2024 on the account page. That means you need to refill on Jan 01, 2024 or the account will get wiped out on the "balance expiration" date right at midnight on Jan 02, 2024 assuming you still have money in the account.

previous years the expiration was the day listed when you can still refill. Now the reps says the expiration is the day listed so you have to RENEW A DAY PREVIOUSLY. Also the fees for renew for $10 is an additional $2.09.

    Just add $1+tax online -- don't need $10+tax

Fees for refilling on T-Mo's website are not blanket, one-size-fits-all. They are based on state and local policies, and these vary widely.
