Perhaps you are thinking of something like the Freestyle Libre CGM (continuous glucose monitor). They have an app that will work with some smartphones, using NFC to read the sensor that attaches to the back of your upper arm, and gets replaced every 14 days. One poke every two weeks vs a few finger sticks a day is awesome, according to my son's who are both Type 1 diabetics.
One of my boys participated in a study testing the Dexcom system, which is similar.
You would need a prescription to get the sensors.
Your doctor or endocrinologist should be able to help.
And getting them may hinge on what your insurance will cover.
