Has anyone ever used all your data and have been throttled?

If so, what was your experience? I would imagine email would still work but what about web browsing or using Google maps? Or some other apps (except YouTube and other streaming apps which of course would be unusable but you can make do without these)?

On their website, the 16GB promo plan says:

"If 16GB high-speed data allowance is used in a 30-day period, speeds are reduced to a max of 128 Kbps for the remainder of the 30 days."

    Hope this helps.
(I myself don't have this plan. My experience with AT&T Prepaid is only with (someone else's) grandfathered 10cents/min plan).

While I don't have prepaid, I got throttled when I had to use my postpaid phone as a hotspot while my home internet was being changed. It was clearly slower, but still useful and did have more "buffering" than normal. I could still listen to Pandora without any difficulty and use the internet. It only became an issue while trying to download/watch video and graphic intensive internet sites. Livable but occasionally, painfully slow.
    Just another day in paradise.....

Due to the rollover benefit, my wife has only used up 100% of her data once in the 2+ years she's used the 8GB plan. It was usable, even for FB or YouTube videos, although it took a lot longer for the videos to start. I don't know if location is a factor.

I still do not understand why AT&T does 128kbps vs 600kbps like the other carriers.

600kbps is usable even on the more graphic intensive pages.

Probably because they don’t wanna make it usable. They wanna make it so you purchase a more expensive unlimited plan instead.

What other carriers give you that speed? All I know is Boost gives 512K.

What carriers offer 600Kbps for the throttled speed after the LTE allowance has been used up? Thanks.

Funny that you mention that, I remember working for At&t CS and having the billing system add $10 for every 100 Mb (I think) of data overage vs. the original per Kilobyte overage charge. Of course, this was before unlimited data on postpaid plans.

Back then, I saw some data bills of over $100 additional data charges for some accounts with high data users. Hard to imagine that high of data usage based on the speed capabilities and available content in the early 2000's compared to today but it did happen.

My absolutley favorite thing was that short stint working in the Verizon call center right before college, and they had just launched "Nationwide" and it being $1.99/MB, seeing someone be charged $1.99 for 2kB of usage (essentially just the phone intiating the sesson once) - and we were not suppose to credit them back.. I always did though, as that charge was bs.. and the only way to fully stop it was to even block MMS.

I know verizon was eventually sued for that, and made "some" data free, but i wonder how much they made off that as a whole.

Haha talk about a cash cow! That $1.99 sure adds up fast if you’re not careful. They probably milked it as much as they could, until they were forced to stop.

Brad, I remember the same thing at At&t/Cingular and I also routinely made such small data usage charges disappear. I never got in trouble and I knew it was just the right thing to do.
