    Add-a-Line Rules copy-pasted from TF's promo email

I got a promo email from TF urging me to add a line. I noticed that it lists a lot of fine print for add-a-line. Since many of you guys here are doing the add-a-line thing, I thought it would be useful so I've copy-pasted below.

    "Offer Details:
Line added must be new (within 30 days of first-time activation).
Line must have a new MIN/Port in.
New line must not be upgrades or reactivations.
New line must not have been a new line before.
Points awarded will be pending for 60 days. New line must be
active for pending points to become available.
All new lines that are removed before getting awarded available
points will not be considered an eligible new line.
Pending points will be removed when ESN is removed from
    account before points become available.
Points are awarded to the account.
Rewards account will earn points for as long as the new line
    remains active."

Seems to me they are getting quite particular about things. Which is fine, as long as they state their rules clearly.

I do wish they'd put everything on their website though, instead of sending it as fine print in promo emails that they probably only send to people like me who don't add a line.

"New line must not be upgrades or reactivations.
New line must not have been a new line before."

Those two requirements are worrisome for refurb phones because TF shows them as reactivation.

This is Tracfone… They don’t follow their own rules. From my experience, no points are given if a new line is added after activation (not within 30 days or 3 hours of first-time activation).

    Thank you Sillyette.

According to these rules the 10,000 points for my refurb Stylus probably won't vest because it says reactivation.

Wish I knew for sure the points won't vest. It would save me money, I wouldn't have to keep the test sim in the same account active. Then again that may be another reason why the points won't vest. TF transferred my service on the test sim to the VZW sim the day after the Stylus was activated.

What does "Line must have a new MIN/Port in" mean. I know what a "port in" of a number is; what is a "new MIN"?

MIN is Mobile Identification Number. You can think of it as the phone number, although a "cell phone purist" might give you THIS ANSWER .
If you ever want to change your TF number, just text MINC (MIN Change) to 611611 and it'll assign your phone a new phone number. I think TF allows you to change phone numbers up to 4 times a month.

But if you change your MIN or ESN it seems like that's a reason why they might not vest the points.

I stick by the plan to freeze both referral and referree in time till points vest though even that is never a certainty to get the points.

Has anyone had refurb phones vest after 61 days and get the AAL points?

I have. But it seems like it's hit or miss, based on other posts I've seen.

Thanks @Crazy8SD and @hpham for your responses. The additional detail in the second response is appreciated - I learn something new every day!

Interesting. I activated my new Flip 2 as an upgrade to my old Verizon CDMA phone and see 10,000 points pending. A couple of weeks ago I activated a free Orbic phone from Tracfone as an upgrade to replace my wife's Verizon CDMA and got no points.

Both phones kept their previous numbers that had been ported from Verizon to Tracfone many years ago. Both phones were purchased from the Tracfone site as upgrades and all the buckets rolled over to the new phones correctly.

I wonder why one phone got 10000 points and the other did not.

Sometimes a new line doesn't get the AAL points and you have to fight with TF to get them. Anyway, since your Flip 2 was activated with a transfer from an existing line, don't be too disappointed when/if those 10,000 pending points don't become available for use after 61 days. That happened to me but I was mentally prepared for it.

I didn't realize this a few weeks ago, when I bought and activated a refurbed Samsung A32 5G (my Androids are both on Android 6 and 7, so time to upgrade) using points.

It showed as a reactivation, so I called them. They acknowledged that the phone number was a new activation and said they'd notated the account and I should call back after 60 days and they will manually add the points. This was a bit distasteful, but I'm going to do it to get the points.

The points must be added NOW by Tracfone, not on day 60. The CSR just said that to get rid of you. The 60 day count down clock toward the points vesting starts when you get the points added to your account.
