They pop up for sale on eBay and other places. But you’re going to have to pay a premium price for it. Since Covid hit these hotspots are hard to get.

I think AT&T launched this recently, but for whatever reason, I don't see it on their website. I just get an error message when I try to use a link through Google to AT&T's website. No one at the stores seems to be aware of it. At least in NYC, the store only had a non-working older version hotspot on the shelf. Is it possible to buy one at the moment?

So AT&T just can't keep up with demand?
Correct. Lots of people now work from home that didn’t used to. Also home schooling contributed along with chip shortages/supply chain issues.

New signature coming soon-ish...
Netgear this week just launched a new Nighthawk M6 5G Router available directly from Netgear unlocked, so it can be used on all 3 major carriers, and maybe even some smaller ones!
It's called the MR6150, and at $800.00 US, it seems that Netgear has decided to charge the same kind of pricing as the Electronics Scalpers selling the AT&T models on eBay and Facebook Marketplace, etc.

Netgear also announced the 6 model which is unlocked with additional features but no MMwave and no wifi 6e. It adds 2.5Gbps I believe and has a home router mode.
The prices on the Netgear’s are way too high. I was thinking of going wireless hotspot with an imac or mac mini but I am better off using a tablet or iphone for hotspot than using the netgear. The netgear costs more than a more powerful smartphone with the same bands and features. I don’t know why anyone would use these Netgear products.
Netgear hotspots have better antennas and much longer battery life than a smartphone.
Depends on the carriers policies and connectivity for hotspot along with the device used. Some carriers see a separate hotspot device differently than a phone or tablet.
In reality if you nave the device next to the other device such as a tablet or smartphone, the connectivity should be just as good. If you move more than a certain distance away I could see a wireless hotspot having a greater range where it matters.
AT&T doesn’t seem to offer 5G Wireless home internet plans like Tmobile and AT&T as it seems to be a low speed LTE connection. All carriers do offer other plans however for data, hotspot and the like.
Where I live all “wired” internet options are lousy and the wireless service is more reliable and doesn’t require any technicians or setup since all that can be provisioned via esim now, even the nano sim was easy enough to setup via the internet once sim was obtained.
