    Safelink/ TracFone

I got a Safelink phone which was a Blue View 2 which I activated to see if I can use it. It wasn't compatible with my hearing aids. Made a loud buzzing noise.

Safelink won't swap the phone for another so I go and buy a TracFone from Walmart and transfered service to it. After a few days trying out the phone I had Safelink port my number over from Verizon pp.

Not that it really matters but I am curious as to TracFone's new unlocking policy.

Question is will TF unlock after 60 days of service or 12 months because the number has been changed with the number port?

For what it's worth - Safelink was based off of Net 10 Wireless in the past. Phones used the T Mobile Network. So if you had a phone compatible with it, you would be able to use their service.

With the whole Verizon thingy playing out I have no clue how you can get a phone working that is compatible with their service.

As far as I know Safelink is issuing out phones for service on TracFones.

The Blu View 2 and this Samsung even comes with the tracfone app pre-installed. Thanks for your reply.

A friend of mine used a TF branded iPhone SE 2016 (TF/Verizon) for his Safelink service a couple of years ago and his phone unlocked in 12 months.

If you terminate a Safelink account/service the phone then becomes a Tracfone (not Net10) and the remaining airtime is Tracfone airtime (not N10) and the phone and remaining airtime and phone number becomes yours to use and add more TF airtime for as long as you like.

I managed my friends Safelink account just like it was a regular Tracfone account. I added data add-ons, regular paygo smartphone plans whatever we wanted. You can also get plans - some of them cheaper, on Safelink.

This went into the "Other Plan". Almost like the way the Unlimited plans behave or should behave when used with regular Paygo smartphone and basic plans. The paygo plans become the other plan (I think now on the new website it is a little different) and the Unlimited plan becomes Current plan.

So you would have Safelink Benefits as the Current plan or whatever it was called and Other plan below it.

If he ran out of Safelink minutes for example before the end of the month, the minutes were then deducted from his other plan minutes buckets.

This was all on Tracfone/Verizon service.

Later, SW boosted up his service benefits dramatically and he never needed to dip into Other plan again.
